Jalisco is home to the most representative items that represent Mexico in the world, Mariachi, Tequila and hat dance. But there is more in this land than those brands dyed by Hollywood to our country. I was born and raised in San Andres, one of the oldest barrios (neighborhoods) in Guadalajara, I belong to a large Mexican family. When I was 19 years old I went for an adventure to the United States, young and single with nothing to lose and lots to gain I migrated to the States. I was fortunate to meet lots of people from all over the world while I went to study in a community college, then I learned that there were lots of misconceptions about Mexico. First I study a GED and along the way I obtain an associated degree in liberal arts, then I decide I should do something to teach people about my country and I studied an associated degree in Traveling and Tourism. In the USA I lived mostly on the west coast but also for a while on the east coast. In the year 2000 I applied to the tourism bureau to get my credentials to become a Tourist guide and in 2001 I obtained a four-year permit which I renew twice and after twelve years I obtained my permanent permit. During this time I have met people from all over the world and I have participated in T. V. programs, radio programs, I have aided book writers and help people in different investigations. Family members search, climate change, owls research among many other adventures. So, since 2001 I've been guiding people from all over the world and enjoying what I do giving my best to every single person I have helped. Please allow me to show you my home and be part of your memories, memories that you will make when traveling into a new world that is waiting for you and your dear family members. Zapopan is the largest municipality in the Guadalajara Metropolitan area, its capital area is located 8kms (5miles) Northwest of downtown GDL, and it is the third most important pilgrimage site in Mexico, after Tepeyac and San Juan de Los Lagos, John Paul 2nd visited this shrine during his first visit to Mexico in 1979. The basilica is part of a cloistered convent where the Virgin of Zapopan is venerated. Also in the convent is the Museo Huichol (indigenous people from Jalisco), In the city hall is a mural that portrays characters of the world and national politics. The San Pedro Apostol church is a building from the 19th century worth seeing. After visiting the downtown area we'll drive northbound by las Cañadas a neighborhood located in the middle of creeks and canyons seeking to end by the Saint Andrews fault canyon, then we'll return to your hotel. If you will like to see any specific place we can do it.
This tour begins at your most convenient location and time, we'll drive to Zapopan which is located five miles away from downtown Guadalajara, we'll visit the Zapopan's basilica, you should cover one of the most important Catholic shrines in Mexico (is recommended to wear casual clothing), at the same place is located the Huichol Museum that exhibits clothing, jewelry, and other daily life items from the Wixarika culture native people of this land where we'll take some time to visit it. Inside Zapopan's city hall there is a Mural painted by Guillermo Chavez Vega that portrays "universal revolutions" If is open we'll get to see it. Next to the city hall is the San Pedro church a great place to visit, then we'll drive by Las Cañadas a residential area to end up by the San Andrews fault canyon and spectacular natural landscape, then go back to your hotel.
