Both Imari and Arita towns are located in Saga prefecture and best know for the porcelains all over Japan. Both porcelains were originally the same. Arita is more known among the Japanese, while Imari is known more among foreigners since the name Imari came from the name of the port, Imari port. A huge amount of porcelains were exported to European countries, especially Germany in the mid 17th to mid 18th century since Min dynasty, China was overthrown. Imari substituted for Min dynasty. Meissen in Germany, Chelsea in UK were all influenced by Imari porcelains. Now each porcelain has remained its own characteristics. Some kilns keep their traditional features for over 400years and some have modern style designs. Both town are located in the country side surrounded by beautiful nature. You can enjoy appreciating those authentic porcelains at hand, and but them if you like them!
