Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine & Yanagawa by private minivan with a licensed guide

Yanagawa city is located about 60km away south of Fukuoka. Yanagawa is famous for river boat riding. A boatman controls the boat without a motor using only an oar that needs tactful skills. The river, once was a moat of the Yanagawa castle, is about 3km long surrounded by trees and seasonal flowers. At the end of the boat riding is "Ohana" that was a residence of the lord of Yanagawa, built in 1910. The town is also best know for "Unagi" or steamed eel flavored with special teriyaki-style sauce and normally served with rice. The avarage cost of Unagi is 3,000-4,000yen. Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine is located about 25km away from Fukuoka city, and once flourished as a regional government. The shrine enshrines Sugawara Michizane who was born early 10th century and was a child prodigy. After his death, he was believed to be the first human being to be a deity, the deity of education. Many people visit the shrine wishing for their academic achievement.
