Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine is located about 25km away from Fukuoka city, and once flourished as a regional government. The shrine enshrines Sugawara Michizane who was born early 10th century and was a child prodigy. After his death, he was believed to be the first human being to be a deity, the deity of education. Now many people visit the shrine wishing for their academic achievement. Tochoji was originally built in early 9th century by Kukai who established esoteric Buddhism in Japan. You can see a beautiful pagoda, and in the main hall you can see a huge wooden sitting Buddhist statue. You'll also walk a pitch dark path (1-min walk) under the stature with a guide, which is an exciting experience. Kushida shrine is the most popular shrine in Fukuoka, and you can see a decorative float used in a summer festival called "Yamakasa". Let's learn the history of the festival by a knowledgeable
