Hi, my name is Alessandro and I'm a passionate Sicilian archaeologist and tour guide. I hold a BA in Preservation of Cultural Herigate, with a specific focus on classical archaeology, completed by a further Postgraduate qualification in Sicily and Magna Graecia Archeology. My main research interest is on Magna Graecia and Sicily Archaeology, about which I published different scientific papers. I was also assistant to the Chair of Greek and Roman Archaeology at the BA Sciences of Tourism of the "Università degli Studi della Calabria". I have worked as an excavation supervisor in Abruzzo, Puglia, Calabria and Sicily. I am a Licensed Guide for Sicily since 2014. What I love most about my job is sharing my passion for the land with others and spreading knowledge of the territory and culture of Sicily as I know her. I am always delighted to guide my visitors into an unconventional world of archaeology, food, wine and traditions. According to me, a place must not only be visited, but felt and lived in all of its multifaceted features. This is the concept I have of any excursion. We must not be tourists, we have to be part of the society in which we stay, blending our customs with their way to live. I think that this belief, in combination with my expertise acquired through extensive and continuing academic research and high-grade studies, makes me a totally different kind of tour guide. According to me "Sicily must be experienced, leisurely and in depth". This is the philosophy through which I live on my island. BA in Classical Archaeology Postgraduate Diploma in Classical Archaeology Long experience of excavations in Sicily and South Italy Experience as assistant to the Chair of Greek and Roman Archaeology at the University Publications related to the field of Roman and Greek Archaeology Licensed Tour Guide for Sicily

Overview of your Syracuse tour

Cicero described Syracuse as the greatest Greek city and the most beautiful of all (Verrine, II, IV, 117). Established in 733 BC. by Corinthian settlers, Syracuse played a starring role in Mediterranean history, becoming the political and cultural heart of Sicily until the Arabic conquest in 878 AD. The historical importance of the city reverberates through its enormous archaeological heritage, which may be regarded as the perfect interpretation of the history of ancient Sicily. This becomes evident by looking at the whole city, from Plemmirio to Epipole, from the Neapolis Park to Ortygia, from the "Borgata di Santa Lucia" to the "Paolo Orsi" Archaeological Museum. This tour will give you a comprehensive overview of this stunning multi-layer city, by delving deep into its thousand-year old archaeological and architectural heritage. As an archaeologist with a contagious passion for my land, I will help you decipher the complex history of Syracuse, by bringing each site to life for you.

It was a great pleasure to meet Alessandro. I chose him out of many because of his educational background. He is a highly knowledgeable, passionate tour guide. Our full-day tour of Siracusa turned into a crash course in the history of not only Siracusa but Sicily and partly Europe. Alessandro made the tour very engaging and informative. For those tourists who are interested in the history of Sicily, I highly recommend Alessandro.

Allesandro's full-day tour of Syracuse was exceptional. His personality, passion, and background as an archaeologist brought depth to each site, making history come alive. His storytelling skills kept us engaged throughout and despite fatigue, we were sorry when the tour ended. An unforgettable experience not to be missed and if you plan to visit Syracuse (and you must!) this is the tour to take.

Alessandro was awesome! He was as entertaining and lovely as the locations he took us too. Very easy going, flexible, and funny - I would definitely look him up again next time I'm in town!

Alessandro is AMAZING!!! The full day tour was incredible! He is so friendly, knowledgeable, personable and funny. The sights were amazing, but having Alessandro answer all our questions and explain everything made history come alive. I leaned more in one day about the Greeks, Romans and archeology with him than I learned in all of high school and college. If I could give him 10 stars I would. Thank you for our best day in Sicily!

Your Syracuse tour itinerary

- Visit to the Eurialo Castle, whose construction was ordered by Dionysius the Elder (402-397 BC). It was built in the most vulnerable part of the Epipole area, and it represented the main fortification in Syracuse until the Roman siege in 212 BC. - Tour of the Neapolis Archaeological Park to visit the Greek Theater, the latomies (Greek stone-quarries), the Altar of Hieron II, and the Roman Amphitheater. - A walk around the island of Ortygia, that discloses exceptional Greek, Roman and Late Antiquity monuments. The tour of Ortygia includes the visit to the Temple of Apollo, the Cathedral/Temple of Athena, and the Fountain of Arethusa. N. B. The Eurialo Castle may be closed depending on the seasons, and other unpredictable reasons. In this case, we'll replace it with the Catacombs of Saint John, the biggest complex of its kind in Sicily, or some other sites. The itinerary can be customized upon request.
