Syracuse Half Day: Greek Theatre and Ortigia

I always have been amazed about the glorious past of Syracuse. In this tour I would like to take you in a journey into the past to rediscover the most important monuments of each age, local myths and cultural points in general. In the Archeological Park of Neapolis we will visit the public area of the Greek and Roman age, with the Acropolis, the Greek Theatre, the big Altar of Hieron II, the Roman Anphitheatre and surprising stone quarries as the immense Ear of Dyonisius. After the archeopark we will go to walk in the suggestive little island of Ortigia that ha always been the cyty-centre of Syracuse, lived since prehistorical age. Here we will see monuments from any age: castles, churches, monasteries, noble palaces but also the daily life with the fish and vegetalbles' market and the fisherman's boats.

We will start the excursion with the visit of the Archeological Park of Neapolis, where there are most important public monuments of Greek and Roman age: - Greek Theatre - Altar of Hieron II - Ancient necropolies and catacombs - Stone quarries as the very famous Ear of Dyonisius -Roman Anphitheatre After this amazing visit we will move by car (5 minutes) to the little island of Ortigia, the real heart of Syracuse, melting pot of culture, history and architectural styles. Just to syntethize we will see: - Greek Temple of Apollo - Greek defensive Walls - Spanish Defensive Walls - The Fountain of Arthemis - Piazza Duomo with the Cathedral that was a previuos Greek Temple of Athena - The Spring of Aretusa - The Maniace's Castle - The Market (opened just in the morning) After the tour you can have lunch in Ortigia.
