I was born in Siracusa. My mother has been a historical tour guide in Sicily for the last 35 years, speaking Italian, Russian, and English, while my father is a Professor of Sculpture and History of Art. I feel incredibly blessed to have been nurtured from a young age with a deep love for this incredible island, its history, and a passion for sharing it. After traveling around the world, I decided to settle in Sicily, in a historic, derelict 20-acre farmhouse in the countryside of Noto. Over the years, my wife and I have lovingly renovated it with our own hands. Following in my wonderful mother’s footsteps, I decided to pursue a career as a guide. I first undertook studies to become a Qualified Nature Guide, and after a few years, I became a Licensed Historical Guide. This allowed me to combine the best of both worlds—nature and history—which, to me, are inseparable. I have always loved languages, especially English. While living in the UK, I had the honor of being chosen as a Public Speaker for a charity, giving talks across the UK and around the world. This experience helped me refine my communication skills to such an extent that, in 2014, I was awarded a visit to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party by Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of my achievements through the charity. Since returning to my homeland of Sicily, I have worked not only as a guide but also as a location scout and translator for BBC and Netflix nature documentaries. History and nature are in my blood. Over the past 10 years, I have dedicated myself to collecting memories and local stories from our grandparents' lives. I believe I am becoming a living museum of disappearing old knowledge. Now, after a decade in this career, and thanks to my family background, I am regarded as one of the most competent English-speaking guides in Sicily. I no longer work with large bus tours of 30–50 people. Instead, I focus on small private groups, offering more personalized, custom tours. Over the years, I have been selected by luxury hotels to guide celebrities, ambassadors, and politicians. I spend more time in nature than anywhere else. I especially love sharing the secret river pools and waterfalls, as well as the stunning coastline of my Sicilian childhood. Alongside guiding, I also manage a beautiful riverside off-grid farm with my wife. We grow all the vegetables needed for our family, and many of my clients visit our farm (featured in my “Slowlife Family Farm” tours) to enjoy our award-winning Sicilian meals made with fresh, organic ingredients. Fun, history, knowledge, curated food experiences, and stunning locations are my key ingredients for creating unforgettable days in Sicily. I am a Licensed Nature Guide and Historical/Archaeological Tour Guide, combining the best of both worlds. As a licensed City Tour Guide, I can guide you through historical monuments and cities. As a licensed Nature Guide, I can lead tours in any nature reserve up to 2,000 meters above sea level. I also served as the Managing Director of a conservation charity in the UK. My work has earned me several recognitions: Awarded "Best UK Social Entrepreneur" by the Future 100 Awards. Featured as a showcase in Make It Happen: The Prince's Trust Guide. Invited to deliver a public speech about insect conservation at the Cheltenham Science Festival, one of the UK’s most prestigious science festivals. Exhibited our conservation project as part of the Royal Society's 350th-anniversary celebrations. Invited by Queen Elizabeth II to attend Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace.

Overview of your Syracuse tour

At Slow Life Family Farm we invite you to step into over 10,000 years of history with a walk through our archaeological treasures. From there, the day flows naturally: harvesting vegetables from the organic garden, learning about our rare seeds and seasonal rhythms, and stepping into the pantry and wine cellar to discover traditional ways of preserving food, always with a glass of wine in hand. Together we prepare and cook, guided by Carlo and Jessie, milling ancient wheat on the stone mill before gathering for a ravioli workshop. The meal becomes a true Sicilian Sunday banquet, abundant with cheeses, breads, garden vegetables, pasta and sweets, always shared in good company. At its heart is the Sicilian wine ceremony, with toasts, songs and poetry passed on by our grandparents. In summer, lunch is by the river with swimming in clear waters; in cooler months it takes place in the farmhouse, warm, welcoming and full of Sicilian spirit.

Carlo and Jessie are the most wonderful hosts and gave us such a special time at their amazing farm. The whole experience was fabulous…their generosity, their graciousness and kindness to us was beyond words. They shared their lives, their food and their culinary skills with us, and we met and shared life with around 20 fellow travellers to the Siracusa area. It was the best experience of our holiday. Thank you Jessie and Carlo!!

Our group of 8 along with another group of 4 visited Carlo and Jessie's old farm. We toured the gorgeous farm and learned the old ways of our ancestors. The farm was in bloom with beautiful Spring flowers. We spent the day prepping and cooking the meal using many vegetables grown on their organic farm and making ravioli. The meal was a multicourse feast during which we listened to Carlo regale us with stories of the old ways and numerous Italian toasts. Such an enjoyable day with a wonderful family on a beautiful setting! Mike S.

Wow!! We spent a week in Sicily but this was the highlight. Don't miss spending a day with Carlo and his family on their farm. We started the day helping to pick vegetables, prep our meal and eat truly wonderful food. More importantly we learned about the life of this wonderful family, their home and the region. We had such an amazing time and by the end felt like we were now part of their extended family... and the food... that was wonderful too! Friendship and memories of this special day are something that lasts a lifetime. Thank you to Carlo, Jesse, the kids, grandparents truly a special day.

This was the best tour we have ever done and really made our holiday. As well as being immersed in the history of the region, we were fully engaged in picking delicious fresh produce for our lunch in the most beautiful setting. We loved learning how to make traditional ravioli under Carlo’s expert tuition. Lunch was cooked by a wonderful chef who put together fresh flavours with panache. Every mouthful was an explosion of fresh, sumptuous tastes. Most importantly, we felt embraced by a wonderful Sicilian family and felt connected to our wonderful surroundings and each other. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Our day with Carlo and Jessie on their farm was the highlight of our week in Sicily. Incredibly hospitable and knowledgeable, they were the perfect hosts and guides to Sicilian cuisine and history; and it was amazing to experience the modern workings of a 2500 (!) year-old farm. After picking the produce we helped prepare the meal and then sat down to a long, lazy and amazing lunch - with the best food we had all week. I work with Michelin starred chefs professionally, but learned a lot and had a blast.
