A breathtaking tour of the Archeological park and the ancient Island of Ortigia. Syracuse is divided in two parts: the island Ortigia is the oldest quarter of the city, it has been inhabited without interruption from the 10th - 9th centuries BC to the present day. The other part of the city is located on the mainland with four suburbs: Acradina, Epipoli, Tiche and Neapolis, in this last quarter we find and visit the extraordinary Archaeological park. Ortigia was founded in 8th Century by Archia from Corinth. The Delphic Oracle told him about this brilliant location with its perfect position to control the island of Sicily and out across the Ionian Sea. I am so proud to show you my female city, the city I was born in. I am Sicilian and this is a good opportunity for you to know my city , the history and the myths.
- We usually start with the Archaeological park of the Neapolis. I will show you the most important and largest Greek Theatre in Sicily built in 5th Century BC, the quarry with the Ear of Dionysus and one of the biggest sacrificial altar in the World. - We will also see the Roman amphitheatre, unique in Sicily. - After a little stop in a bar to take coffee, ice cream or something else, we'll continue the tour to the Island of Ortigia. - We will arrive in the old part of the city by car and we'll walk around all the narrow streets that are one of the most surprising and exciting things here. - During our stroll, I'll show you the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, the Cathedral built on the still standing Temple of Athena. - Finally, we'll visit the fresh water spring of Aretusa. NOTE: If you have a specific itinerary in mind send me a message and I'll customize the tour for you. This tour as a whole or partially, can be customized to fit your preferences - please inquire!
