Hello! My name is Peter, and I was born and raised in the beautiful town of Chania! I have travelled around the world and stayed in the United States where I spent my college years. I have been in the local tourist industry for more than 10 years, having been engaged throughout that time in the hotel business and giving tours to travelers. I am excited to show you the beautiful prefecture of Chania, with its vast natural beauty comprising its gorgeous beaches, astonishing nature and its picturesque villages. Crete is located on the crossroads of civilizations with a strategic position on the Mediterranean Sea, as it is on the pathway from Europe to the Middle East and the Minor Asia. With me you will meet Chania's rich history from the Ancient Ages, to the Medieval Ages at the times of the Byzantine Empire, as well the Venetian occupation succeeded by the Ottoman rule through its Modern history and liberation. We will blend it with its local culture and traditions and how it formed the fascinating Cretan culture. My goal is with my pleasant and cheerful personality show travelers a great time and pass through interesting information, so in the near future they will be eager to visit again or at least be nostalgic of the great experience they had on their tour. From my part I will be more than willing to give recommendations for any tour, even for some travelers who have special requests, to be flexible and adaptive according to their needs. Overview of your Chania tour
We will tour around Akrotiri peninsula. First visit the historic monasteries of Agia Triada and Gouverneto. We will marvel the architecture of the monasteries and explore their rich history. At Agia Triada you can optionally do wine tasting for a bit less than 1 hour, only on weekdays. Gouverneto is not open every day. We will relax for three hours by the crystal clear waters of Aegean sea in the beautiful bay of Stavros. Oscar nominated Zorbas the Greek was filmed on this beach. You could have lunch at a nearby restaurant. On the way back we will stop at Venizelos graves to enjoy a breath taking panoramic view of Chania. There are a few options to customize this tour. We could visit of Chania old town for 2 hours, at Gouverneto hike for 1-2 hours to Arkoudiotisa cave and later to Katholiko, or do a wine tasting at Agia Triada monastery for an hour. It was very interesting to see the Peninsula and the monasteries and to learn about their history. We did not walk to the third monastery and Peter was so great to fill the time with a tour of the Old City of Chania - things we never would have known and alleys we never would have walked up. Your Chania tour itinerary
• Pick up from Souda port, Chania airport, your hotel/accommodation in the greater Chania area or any other nearby convenient location • Estimated traveling time from Chania 40 minutes by car • First stop at the Monastery of Agia Triada. Stay 45min. Walk around the monastery to show you the highlights and explain its history. Optional wine tour for an hour. No tasting take place on weekends. • Second stop at the Monastery of Gouverneto. Stay 30 minutes. History presentation, show you the monastery. Gouverneto is open Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday from 9:00-12:00pm. On Sunday 5:00am-12:00pm. Wednesday and Friday closed. • Optional hike to Arkoudiotisa cave or Katholiko, an ancient monastic community. Between 1-2 hours, including rest. • Visit for 2 hours Stavros beach with crystal clear waters and have lunch at a nearby restaurant. • Venizelos graves, for 15 minutes, enjoy the panoramic view of Chania. • Optional visit to Chania old town for around 2 hours (extra charge).
