Born and raised in Chania, spent 10 years in the UK, studied modern history, did two MAs and worked for Marriott hotels as a manager for 4 years. I work in tourism for more than 25 years and since 2006 I manage a small family hotel and offer private tours to various locations. If you are looking for a hike combining one of the three options: beach, wine or olive oil tasting, this is the perfect tour for you! Imbros gorge is located south of Lefka Ori mountains and take around 3 hours to cross. The hike starts from Imbros village. I will drop you off at the entrance, then pick you up at the end. I will not hike with you. Its around 2 hours driving each way. Most of the hike is in the shade with a narrow trail that cannot be lost. It's good to have a sufficient supply of water and hat. Imbros gorge is a small version of Samaria gorge. The scenery is breathtaking, ideal for nature lovers and wildlife watchers. I believe its the best hike for children from 10 years old and half the size of demanding Samaria gorge. After Imbros we could visit Frangokastello beach or do a wine or olive oil tour/tasting for an hour. You can choose one option. Tastings and lunch are around 20 euro per person each and paid separately. November to March no tastings.
Super good time. George was great in informing what to expect from the hike. After the hike, had a wonderful lunch at a recommended local restaurant on the beach. On the way back to town George brought us to his favorite ice cream place for desert. Fantastic day!

Great day with George yesterday who was kind enough to put together a custom tour. A great introduction to Crete which involved hiking the Imbros Gorge followed by a trip to Frangokastello on the South shore of Crete for a leisurely post hike lunch and a swim in the Libyan Sea. George is a fountain of information on the history of Crete and very considerate of our party of five's individual needs and interests
•Pick up at Souda port, your accommodation or any other convenient location in the greater Chania area. (the earlier the better, recommend depart at 8:00). •Arrival at Imbros gorge after 1,5 hour drive with stops. Drop you off at entrance. •Hike for around 3 hours, bring a light snack. Around noon exit the gorge. Will wait outside. •Drive to Frangokastello beach for thirty minutes, spend 2 hours on the beach (there are restaurants nearby if you want to eat) and then drive to Chania for 2 hours. •Alternatively instead of the beach we could do a wine tasting at a winery or visit an oil factory for an hour each (choose one option). and have lunch for an hour. •I can customize this tour for larger groups.
