Hello and welcome to Uruguay! My name is Gabriel and I am a lifelong resident of this wonderful coastal country. One of my passions is meeting people from different cultures. As your tour guide, it is my privilege and pleasure to take you on a memorable sightseeing trip and a fun architectural outing. I am a retired architect. I have been working as a tour guide for TourByLocals for over 12 years. I am proud to call the city of Montevideo my own true home. From our beautiful leafy streets and relaxing seaside avenue to our sandy beaches and stunning architecture, Montevideo has it all. I offer private tours of Montevideo and also completely customizable private tours suitable to your needs and wishes. (I am happy to work with you to custom design an itinerary that suits your personal interests and needs). I really enjoy learning and sharing our local history and peculiarities that make us unique. I am vaccinated for Covid and work hard to provide a safe and clean environment for my guests. My mission is to make sure every visitor has the most fun and leaves with the desire to return soon! I have lived 1 year in the States in Joliet, Illinois, as an exchange student and graduated at the Joliet Township HS, great and unforgettable experience, so I speak English fluently. During this year, I choose subjects as English, American History and Calculus as I was going to need it for my future career as an Architect at the Uruguayan College of Aechitecture. After my Senior year In Joliet, exchange students traveled together to the East Coast, New York and Washington where we were invited to the White House for a presidential speech. I returned for a second time in 2015 visiting relatives too. Later, I became an Architect retiring in 2010, when I started as a Tour Guide. I am passionate about World History and Politics, learning a lot about Uruguay and Latin America's history. I have also lived for 3 years in Brazil working as an Architect. Uruguay certainly is a vibrant and exciting place to live and to visit. Montevideo is a seaside city, with idyllic views all around. You will also learn Uruguay's not known and interesting history facts and stories, Uruguayan people's background and culture. I will be glad to assist you about transfers, hotels, best rent-a-car options, reliable bus companies or whatever you may need. If you are in Buenos Aires, you may come for the day by a 3 hour ferry or in a 45 min. flight I can pick you up at the place of your arrival. It's my goal to introduce you to my charming city and help you get the most out of your visit to this beautiful country! Suggestions These are my 3 suggestions to guarantee you a memorable and exciting visit to Montevideo: 1. Montevideo is a safe city, although I would recommend you to take care of your personal belongings. If you are planning to stay some days choose a hotel in coastal neighborhoods as Punta Carretas, or Pocitos where the beaches and our beautiful rambla are the main highlight of Montevideo the Seaside City. If after your visit you are leaving Uruguay early in the morning I suggest to stay in the Carrasco neighborhood next to Carrasco Airport. 2. Major credit cards are accepted, Money exchange shops and ATM are everywhere. Dollars are widely accepted. 3. Water and food quality have the same standards as USA or Europe. In restaurants, customers are charged around 3 dollars as "Table Fee". Restaurants beverages (soft drinks, wine, beer and coffee) are quite expensive. Tipping is optional, usually 10%. Waiters will ask you if they can add the 10% tip to your credit car Certificate Of Proficiency in English from Michigan University, USA National Geographic Society Member Graduated from Joliet HS, Illinois, USA. In 1979 I graduated as Architect In Brazil. Where I lived and worked as Architect during 3 years. Cruise passengers: Montevideo Port is a restricted area. As I cannot enter inside and next to the pier Cruise passengers must walk about 3 blocks to the Port Exit door. Our van has to park about one or two blocks from the Port Exit Door.
