I'm a University Gruaduate Tour Guide as well as National & Regional Tourism Technician fully Pfizer vaccinated against Covid-19. Ever since I was a child I always found myself continuously captivated by foreigners, be it by their languages or their cultures. Being part of a family of European immigrants and periodically exposed to different languages my entire life, this always proved to be second nature to me. In addition, I studied English for over a decade in one of the top schools in the country and to this day continue to use it on a daily basis. Thanks to this, I was able to obtain The University of Michigan's Certificate of Proficiency in English. As part of my Tourism education, I attended the United Nation's World Tourism Organization's First Seminar on the International Code for the Protection of Tourists and hold a Touristic Management certificate emitted by the Ministry of Commerce of China. I am proud to say I now have a decade of experience working in Tourism, during which I've had the privilege to provide services for worldwide organizations such as UNESCO, the UN Environment Programme, the Organization of American States & the Inter-Parliamentary Union. I've also provided tours to politicians such as South Carolina's Senate Minority Lead Brad Hutto and the Minister of Natural Resources of Guyana Vickram Bharrat. On a more personal note, being born and raised in Uruguay (the only place I ever lived in) I am wholeheartedly acquainted with its ins & outs, and feel genuine enthusiasm every time I get the opportunity to share these gems hiding in plain sight with others. I fully believe every person is unique and experiences this country in a different way, but my job is to guarantee this experience is remarkable for everyone. Even though there is a certain structure in the private tours I offer, these are always flexible to a degree, and able to be customized as to fulfill your unique expectations. I sincerely hope we can get to know each other and go around my beautiful country together!

Montevideo's heritage and its very name dates back to Americo Vespucci himself, let me tell you why as we go around one of UNESCO's Creative Cities. Let's visit the square made in honor of the founder of Montevideo, and then go to the city's oldest one (three centuries old!) Dare to enter headquarters of a public institution that curiously predates our country itself, and even drive around our magnificent Legislative Palace. After that, we will embark into the green. You will learn exactly why Montevideo is called a "Green City" visiting its 3 primordial green areas (Prado, Rodo Park & Franklin D. Roosevelt Park) each with their own incredibly interesting backgrounds. Take advantage of the vast biodiversity Uruguay presents; with over 450 confirmed bird species in our territory, get ready to do some birdwatching across this tour! As a born and raised Montevidean and Tour Guide with years of experience, I'm very excited to have the opportunity to take you to some of my favorite spots in the city!

Gonzalo was extremely knowledgeable and informative about Montevideo. He obviously takes pride in being able to convey his admiration, love and loyalty to his city. Great English speaking skills and a wonderful disposition to answer all the questions we bombarded him with. We highly recommend Gonzalo to extract as much information as possible from his utterly surprising knowledge. Excellent!!!!
Gonzalo Mara is very knowledgeable, energetic and professional guide. His English is fluent. Gonzalo's knowledge is broad and deep. Our conversations touched geography, history, social structure and much more. We shared personal stories, laughter and had a great time. Our 6 hour tour was pleasant and educational. We highly recommend Gonzalo Mara and his 6 hour tour!
·We'll begin by visiting Zabala Square where I'll share the hidden meaning of Montevideo's name. ·We'll then head to Constitution Square and see a beautiful marble fountain and our country's main catholic temple. ·We'll also pass by the National Post Office Tower & our country's most important square. ·We'll drive past our beautiful Congress and later reach Rodo Park's quarries, lake & Holocaust Memorial at the seaside (great chance for birdwatching). ·After visiting a former cereal plantation with its former stone mill and water wheel from the 1800s, we'll drive to Roosevelt Park (the largest urban park we have) which also has a lake (and even an island!). ·At last, we'll return to where we started or drop you off at a preferred spot. If this does not suit your interests, I'm always able to provide you with a customized tour that better fulfills your wishes. Please feel free to get in touch and request it for which an appropriate budget will be provided according to the group size.

For up to 2 passengers, we will use a Chevrolet Prisma sedan car or similar. For 3, we will use a H1 Hyundai, Staria or similar. For 4 or more, we will use a Renault Master van. In every case with free WIFI and air conditioning.
Montevideo, Montevideo Department, Uruguay
For Cruise passengers, the tour will start at the port entrance, where they would be picked by our vehicle and taken to the first stop. That being said, the ideal place for the tour to start would be in the place we would first visit, which is the Constitution Square. We do count with a vehicle though, so we can still pick you up from a prearranged location that may vary from this 2 options.
