Born and raised on the peninsula of Charleston, my family can trace its roots back to Dr. Henry Woodward a man who was aboard the first ship that arrived in 1670, making me a 13th generation Charlestonian. Growing up in downtown Charleston, I can provide an insiders perspective of this historic city. I have first hand experience of the economic changes that have taken place in the 21st century, elevating Charleston to a thriving port city once again. Most people coming here today do not realize the economic depression that took place in Charleston from the end of the civil war until very recently. As we explore the alleys and passages, we will discuss the history, architecture, culture, and economic swings of this All American City. With a degree in Anthropology/Archaeology from the University of South Carolina, I've been an archaeologist in the area for over 30 years, giving me a unique perspective and insight into the history of Charleston. I have the pleasure of teaching Archaeology to campers ages 8-14 in the summer months. In 2010, I became a licensed/certified tour guide in Charleston. I enjoy leading travelers and locals through this historic city and sharing the history from the founding in 1670 to present day. Join me on a walking tour as we wander through the cobblestone streets, passages and alleys, seeing various styles of architecture and buildings that have withstood the centuries. Charleston is a city steeped in history - surviving fires, earthquakes, hurricanes, wars, economic swings to present day growth and expansion. Come away from the walking tour with a better understanding of the history and culture of this centuries old town, and the architecture that makes it so unique. Many historic sites will be encountered along the route including the Old Exchange, Churches, Old Slave Mart Museum, Rainbow Row, the Harbor, High Battery and more. The walking tours can be adjusted to any traveler preferences or needs. I can accommodate groups of all sizes from small groups, families, wedding parties, corporate, school groups and more. Licensed/Certified Tour Guide in Charleston since 2010, Archaeologist since 1994, Archaeology teacher at Green River Preserve in NC in the summer months Guided Walking Tours, no restrictions
