I am a native of Charleston and a member of a well-known family whose local origins reach back through the ages. A professional and City of Charleston-licensed guide since 1983, I have provided guide services for individuals, families, and meeting and conference professionals on the national and international levels. I am highly respected and much sought-after as a speaker to the myriad of corporations and organizations that elect to convene in the Carolina Lowcountry. I will paint for you a colorful canvas of the area's foundation and expansion, utilizing not only architectural, cultural, and religious facts, but also that always-entertaining information available only to those who are from here. My media features include Good Morning America; WGBH {public television} in Boston; the London Times; British BBC; and Southern Living Magazine, amongst many others. Please come and join me in Charleston! Licensed as a tour guide by The City of Charleston.

Explore the Carolina Lowcountry as you travel to Middleton Place Plantation and Drayton Hall Plantation. Middleton Place is a National Historic Landmark and a carefully preserved 18th-century rice plantation. The house museum is filled with priceless paintings, furniture, and silver. Stroll the plantation gardens which are the oldest formal gardens in the United States. The stable yard exhibits depict a working 18th Century Plantation. Drayton Hall, built-in 1742, is owned by the National Trust. It is an English Country Manor that survived the burning by Federal troops after the Civil War. First of its kind in Palladian architecture in the US with a massive portico. No other house of this period in the new world can compare with its delicate carvings of mahogany and wet plaster, hand-molded ceilings. The house is being preserved in its original condition rather than being restored. History comes alive with me, a native Charlestonian and licensed with the Arts and History Commission of the city!
I would recommend around a 9 am departure from the city. -Arrive at Middleton Place around 9:30 am. *Tour gardens for 45 minutes, the house museum (30 minutes), and then stableyards. There is a lot of walking to see Middleton Place gardens and stableyards. - Leave Middleton around 12:45 pm -Arrive at Drayton Hall for a 1 pm tour. *It is a 45-minute tour of the house. The grounds at Drayton are optional time permitting. - Depart Drayton around 2:30 and arrive back in the city around 3 pm. There is a wonderful plantation restaurant or snack bar at Middleton for lunch. Lunch in the restaurant would extend the day an additional hour.
