Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my Tours By Locals page. My friends call me Kay and I would love to bring to life for you the history, architecture, and personality that makes me love Charleston so much. I have lived in various regions of the US over the years and when my husband and I moved to the south many years ago, it was like coming home! My love of teaching, history, and meeting new people are the perfect combination to lead you on a unique tour through Charleston and share our remarkable history. Whether you are interested in our centuries of gorgeous architecture, our significant political and military history, slavery and the Gullah culture, or the compelling stories of the residents of Lowcountry plantations, my goal is to keep you interested and engaged during your entire tour! I have a Master's Degree in Education and I am an AMI certified Montessori teacher. I am also a Certified Guide for the City of Charleston, a member of the Palmetto Guild and the Charleston Tour Association. I am certified as a Head Docent with the Charleston Horticulture Society and I participate in continuing education monthly to keep my certification active! I love customizing my tours so everyone has a good time! We had a wonderful tour and introduction to Charleston. We loved the history and the personalization that she brought to the tour which, on a very hot day, was welcome and appreciated! We would recommend her to anyone looking for more that just scratching the surface.
Kate is absolutely charming! Very knowledgeable and personable. I swear she knows everyone in town lol. We were in town for a girls trip, and we kicked off our weekend with the walking tour and could not have enjoyed it more.
Kay is a delightful person. She has a warm humor and is very pleasant to be around. My wife and I had a great three hours walking the city. She knows the place cold, and can tell you the broad history of the City but also interesting details about specific houses and buildings. She also knows every ally and corner of town so you will not just walk the main streets but instead see parts of the city you wouldn't otherwise see. If you are going to Charleston and want a great experience I would highly recommend Kay.
We had the best time in Charleston with Kay! She is a wonderful guide with a great personality who took excellent care of us. Her knowledge of the city and local history is extensive and impressive. Thank you for a great day! We will absolutely use her services again if we return to the area.
By far the best part of our one week stay in Charleston was our tour guide Kathryn A. The first day we were on a walking tour, and the second a driving tour. We have been to quite a few places around the world on private tours and she surpassed them all. How she could memorize the dates of every single house we saw and all the history of Charleston was amazing to us. She was enthusiastic, kind, professional, and smart. The car trip was seamless--to talk and drive is a hard thing, and she breezed through that. We can't thank her enough for giving us such an in-depth tour!
