Since I am a 5th-generation Charlestonian, I may be a bit biased, but I think you're going to fall in love with this place! I have many years of experience bringing the sights and sounds of Charleston to visitors and newcomers. My tours have been featured in Fodor's Travel Guide and Diversion Magazine. I am also the author of five popular guide books about the area's culture, architecture and history. In addition to being a licensed tour guide, I am a guest speaker at special programs, a freelance writer for local magazines, and a former docent at local historic sites. Before pursuing my current avocation as a tour professional, I was a classroom teacher, and I hold a Master's Degree in Education (from the College of Charleston, of course). Let me introduce you to the city where I've lived my entire life and that has been home to my family for over 170 years. I am licensed by the city of Charleston as a registered tour guide and as a member of Charleston's Palmetto Guild, a designation of local tour guides who have been recognized by the city as committed to historical accuracy, continuing education and providing an engaging experience for visitors. I am also a freelance writer for travel books and local publications.

History will magically come alive as you travel through the last 350 years by using the city's historic streets, buildings and homes to guide you. Do you know why Charleston was the only walled city in the British colonies of North America? How did logs from local palmetto trees help American Patriots defeat the Royal Navy during the Revolutionary War? Who was the courageous slave that led a harrowing escape for fellow slaves and later became a U. S. Congressman? Why did Charleston lose over half its population fifty years ago? And how has the city gone from rags to riches in recent years? There is so much for you to learn as you uncover these mysteries - and more!
This 3-hour tour includes a leisurely stroll through some of the most picturesque and historic streets of the city. We'll cover the French Quarter and sections of the South of Broad neighborhood. Highlights will include: - The City Market - The Old Exchange - The Fireproof Building - The Dock Street Theater - The Battery - The Pink House - The Old Slave Mart - Rainbow Row - The Four Corners of Law - Philadelphia Alley - The Hibernian Society - St. Philip's Church, - St. Michael's Church - First Baptist Church - French Huguenot Church - Circular Congregational Church - Cabbage Row (aka Catfish Row) - Cobblestone streets - Sweet grass basket artisans And lots of things in between! Please send me a message if you would like to customize this tour.
