Beauty & Tragedy: Charleston's History - Private Walking Tour

Adam is an extraordinary guide and a native to Charleston. This city’s history is not all pretty… actually quite messy… but he is passionate about it and tells the story well. He took the time in advance to map out our walk together into a story line, and we hit the ground running and saw it all in the allotted time. He is an excellent communicator with a voice that projects well enough you can hear and understand every word even in the city noise. I would highly recommend Adam to anyone interested in seeing and comprehending the history of a city whose history played major parts in the history of our Country.

Our tour of Charleston was performed by Adam, a local whose story telling passion captured our imagination while bridging history to modern day times. Adam guided us to see and experience many of the historic treasures Charleston has to offer, layering in the narrative linked to each site. From national historic landmark St. Philip's Anglican Church and its notable people buried in its graveyard to the first theater, Dock Street Theatre, and the legend around famous rainbow row, Adam narrated compelling tales of each. We covered stories of pirates, the city's passion for wealth, and of course the site line to the start of the Civil War, at Fort Sumter. As we toured we also visited an example of the American slave trade, at Ryan's Market, while recognizing that the economy was supported on the talents and labor of enslaved people. Adam covered this topic with respect and care. Adam is an energetic, well read, and passionate guide who kept our attention, even in the June heat! We recommend him for personalized, in depth touring experiences that keep you entertained.

Adam was spectacular. I have been on a city tour with tours by locals before and while that tour was also very good, it didn't compare to this one. Adam goes so deep into the history and anecdotal information about this incredibly rich city. Shares the good and the bad, the past and the current. Highly recommend! If we'd had more time, would have gone on one of his evening tours too!

I can’t say enough good things about our tour. Adam was not only incredibly knowledgeable but such a natural storyteller. My kids were obsessed with the ghost stories and pirate tales he threw in which made it fun for all of us!
