Charles Town's colonial and Revolutionary War history is second to none. It was the only "walled city" that the British built in America, and its seaport rivaled that of New York, Philadelphia and Boston. It became the wealthiest of any city in America! During the Revolutionary War, one of the first major victories for the Patriots over British forces took place here, but four years later, the city was the site of the longest siege of any American city by the British. Take a step back in time nearly 300 years to discover the rich history of this period by strolling the same streets and viewing many of the same buildings that were witness to the founding of our nation.
Through this walking tour, we will spend three hours exploring significant sites, events and figures of the colonial period. Among the many sites included are: - The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon - St. Philip's Church - St. Michael's Church - French Huguenot Church - John Rutledge House - The Powder Magazine - The Pink House - Edward Rutledge House - The State House - Miles Brewton House - Coates Row - Rainbow Row - Heyward-Washington House Tour itinerary can be customized upon request.
