Hi, I’m Ronnie! Charleston has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I’ve come to know its neighborhoods, hidden corners, and layered stories not just as a visitor, but as a local deeply connected to the community. I’ve always been drawn to adventure, education, and people. Over the years, I’ve led everything from day-long whitewater kayaking trips to month-long backpacking expeditions in Alaska, experiences that taught me how powerful travel can be when it brings people together. Today, I bring that same energy and sense of connection to my tours in Charleston. While Charleston has many wonderful guides, my approach is different: I focus not only on telling history, but on helping guests connect with it. I believe the most memorable travel experiences happen when stories feel personal, engaging, and relevant to your own interests. Rather than a cookie-cutter script, each experience is thoughtfully curated to match what you’re most curious about, whether that’s culture, food, Jewish history, or the hidden stories that many visitors miss. My goal is simple: to help you experience Charleston in a way that feels meaningful, memorable, and uniquely yours. I look forward to exploring the city with you!

Overview of your Charleston tour

Join local Jewish Charlestonian and educator Ronnie, for a tour tracing more than 300 years of Jewish life in Charleston, once home to the largest Jewish community in the United States. From Sephardic arrivals in the 1690s to Ashkenazi immigrants in the 1800s, we explore how Jewish history is woven into the fabric of the city. Visit “Little Jerusalem” and two of America’s oldest synagogues, one the birthplace of Reform Judaism and oldest in continuous use, the other the nation’s oldest active Orthodox Ashkenazi congregation — along with the site of the first Jewish-owned pharmacy, a brothel once run by a Jewish woman, and historic homes tied to merchants and civic leaders. Along the way, we examine the vital role of African Americans in Charleston’s Jewish story and the complex legacy of Jewish involvement in the slave economy and the Civil War. More than a history tour, this is an exploration of identity, resilience, and continuity in the American South.
