We were taking a cruise that departed from Southampton, which is a 2 hour trip from Heathrow. Realizing that we could swing by Stonehenge, I booked a tour with Nick. He picked us up from the airport and gave us a history of the city of London as we drove through. We stopped at a quaint pub in the outskirts of London and enjoyed some fish and chips. Nick had also added a stop at the lesser known Avebury, which is not as popular but it's older than Stonehenge. From there we had a beautiful drive through the countryside. Once we arrived he gave us the option to catch the shuttle or walk, we opted to walk. Nick described in great detail the history and significance and the placement of certain alignment rocks and celebrations that were held. He's truly the Stonehenge guru. Nick was also a fun guide, we had a great time learning.

The tour vehicle was large and very comfortable for our group of 4 plus bags. It would clearly hold a group twice our size. The tour plan was lovely, taking in both Stonehenge and its surrounding areas, with lovely insights at all stops. Meet at your London address, airport or port. Drive about 2 hours to Avebury. Walk around, touch & photograph the stones within Europe's largest Neolithic stone circle. Visit the local museum, shop, pub. Take a short drive to the ancient wonder of Silbury Hill, Europe's largest mound. Ramble a mile through a farmer's field to West Kennet, a Neolithic long barrow communal chambered tomb. Take a 40 minute drive through lovely countryside to Woodhenge, Durrington & Stonehenge. At the Stonehenge visitor centre have some light refreshment. Explore the prehistoric artefacts in the exhibition. Have a ramble to Stonehenge (or take the short shuttle).Whilst walking around we can take some photos & talk about how & why Stonehenge was built.
