Hello, I'm Jenny and I would love to share with you my knowledge and passion for the City of London. Built on the footprint of the Old Roman wall, there has been a City here for 2000 years! It is called the Square Mile because of this footprint and it is packed with history, amazing buildings both old and new and many quirky facts. Let me show you the well known parts and the less well known - and some of the hidden and secret pockets of the City that you would never know were there. As a professional actor, I love telling a story and communicating the City's rich history to people in the most interesting and fun way. I won't bombard you with dates but I will tell you the stories of the people behind the amazing places we will visit - I will tell you the stories of ordinary Londoners who lost their lives whilst saving the life of someone else- often a complete stranger. Let me introduce you to the men who made sure that Shakespeare's work was saved for all to enjoy - it is 400 years since Shakespeare's first Folio was published. Let me tell you about three times elected Lord Mayor whose legacy is still doing good and helping people 600 years on from his death in 1423. The City is a world class financial district and I will tell you how this came to be and I will take you to the place where the first cup of coffee was sold in the City of London and These coffee shops lay the foundations for the Financial Services of the City of London and were hugely influential in shaping the City into the World class Financial centre that it is today. There are so many wonderful buildings and people whose lives have shaped the City of London and I would love to walk you around the City and introduce you to some of these amazing places. My interests are people, acting, communicating, music and literature. I also love devising bespoke tours for people - so if you have a particular interest in the City then contact me and I will devise a walk around your particular interests! I am looking forward to meeting you. The City of London is over 2000 years old. It has experienced many disasters - the Plague, The Great Fire of 1666, and the blitz during the second World War - but each time the City has been rebuilt and restored - and, like the pheonix on the south facing side of Sir Christopher Wren's iconic St Paul's Cathedral, the City has always risen again through the ashes and has come back bigger, better and stronger - the City is now the number one Financial and Business centre in the world. The City is unique - it is separate from the rest of London and has its own form of Government and its very own Lord Mayor. It is a tantalising mix of the old and the new - nestled amongst the towering skyscrapers and steel towers are medieval churches, secret parks and parts of the ancient Roman wall. Let me show you this fascinating City - we will walk down tiny medieval alleyways, see the fabulous Guildhall Yard which is the heart of the City and hear some amazing tales of the people who used to live here.
- We will start at the Monument - the largest single standing stone column in the world, built to remember the Great Fire of London in 1666. - Pudding Lane - Hear how the fire started and why it burned for over 4 days and 4 nights. - We will walk up some tiny narrow medieval streets to a beautiful ruined church and a memorial to the Blitz (1940-1941) - Visit a beautiful medieval market place - a site of magic (think Harry Potter!) and history. - The site of the oldest coffee shop - and where Scrooge's counting house in Charles Dickens 'A Christmas Carol' was sited. - The first shopping centre - built in 1567 - a place for Royal proclamations. - The Bank of England and why there is a secret garden in the middle of it. - A memorial to Shakespeare. - Guildhall Yard. - A secret park to heroic Londoners who lost their lives saving those of others. - A secret garden where you can see two reflections of St Pauls Cathedral.
