If you haven't heard of Hampstead it's because the locals want to keep it all to themselves! Perched on a North London hilltop, only a 15-minute underground ride away from central London, Hampstead has retained the English charm of a country village. It's as quintessentially English as a nice cup of tea, with wisteria-covered cottages, atmospheric pubs, cobbled streets and a history that goes back centuries. I dare you not to fall under its charm! This "urban village" attracted, and continues to attract, artists, actors, writers, musicians and glitterati of all kinds: indulge in a bit of celebrity spotting while walking up and down its quiet streets lined by pretty houses from all architectural eras. It feels a bit like finding yourself on a film set! After a refreshment break, we will take a detour to the Heath, London's biggest nature reserve with meadows, fields, ponds and trees, the site of the magnificent Kenwood House, one of London's hidden gems, offering breathtaking views of the city skyline.
On this 4-hour private tour you will see: - Historic Burgh House and Fenton house, the oldest surviving mansion in Hampstead - One of London's most hauntingly beautiful churchyards where we visit the graves of a host of famous figures from the past - Church Row, a perfectly preserved 18th century promenade, home to the sci-fi writer H. G. Wells and where John Lennon and Keith Richards partied into the night - Flask Walk, with its quirky independent shops and a historic pub which embodies the history of Hampstead as 18th century spa resort - Charming St Mary's Church, where the actress Judy Dench got married and exiled French president Charles DeGaulle worshipped - Numerous houses and plaques commemorating Hampstead famous residents, including Louis Stevenson (author of Treasure Island and Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde), the painter John Constable, acting couple Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, the tragic Romantic poet John Keats - On the Heath we will walk as far as Kenwood House, location of many famous films
