Ljubljana at a glance with a local

My husband and I had one afternoon in the capital of Ljubljana . We had flown overnight to join a bicycling vacation the next morning. Thanks to Mateja Kregar Gliha, we at least know a little about the beautiful city. In a couple of hours, Mateja walked us around showing us the highlights of the city and telling us about the history, architecture, and cuisine of the country she clearly loves. We now have a greater appreciation of Slovenia. Thank you, Mateja and Tours by Locals.

Mateja Is a great guide. She is knowledgeable and informative. She brought a positive attitude and enthusiasm to the tour and offered many great suggestions for how to spend our time in Slovenia outside of the tour.

My wife and I drove from Venice to Ljubljana, and there was no doubt, because we had never been to Slovenia, that virtually everything would be a learning experience ... starting with learning how to spell "Ljubljana." That taken care of, Mateja went to work finishing the job. As an International Affairs/History major back in the day, who as taken my share of group tours, I understand much of what goes into the development of tour guide. Mateja has it all. She took us all over the city, going beyond the level of the typical guidebook or group tour, and the conversation our walk resembled an ongoing dialog much more than a lecture. Our time exploring Ljubljana with Mateja was a great investment in time and money, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Mateja was an outstanding guide! She gave us a 2 hour private tour of downtown Ljubjiana, there were six in our group. Her English is excellent and she is very engaging and easy to understand. She is passionate about Slovenia and shared both the history of the city, as well as the history of the country. I highly recommend her!
