Hello, My name is Andrei. I was born and raised in Bucharest, and over the years, I turned my passion for history, photography, food, and cultural travel into a career as a licensed guide and professional tour leader. I’ve had the chance to work with travellers from all over the world, both in Romania and across Europe. I create experiences that feel personal, relaxed, and genuinely connected to the places we explore together. Outside of guiding, I enjoy photography, discovering local cafés and restaurants, exploring architecture and history, and meeting people from different cultures. I love finding the small details that make a place memorable: a hidden courtyard, an old local story, a family-run restaurant, or simply the atmosphere of a neighbourhood. For me, travel is not just about seeing famous landmarks. It’s about understanding a place's character and experiencing it more authentically. As a guide, I enjoy sharing both the well-known highlights and the more local sides of Bucharest. It is a city full of contrasts, where elegant historic buildings stand next to communist architecture, lively cafés, local markets, and stories shaped by centuries of history and cultural influences. Romania itself is incredibly diverse, with medieval towns, mountains, traditions, folklore, and regional food culture that often surprise travellers. My goal is to help people experience not only the sights, but also the atmosphere, stories, and local perspective behind them. I think a good tour should help travellers understand the city in a way they cannot on their own or from a guidebook. Every traveller experiences a place differently, and that is one of the things I enjoy most about guiding: adapting the experience to the person in front of me. On my tours, the focus is on how you experience the city while providing context for the layers of the places we visit together. More often than not, people do not remember every name, date, or piece of information they are given, but they remember how they felt and the small details that are easy to miss at first. The most memorable moments often happen in between the main sights: during a conversation, in a hidden courtyard, or in a place you would never normally think to stop. That is why I believe a good tour should feel like spending the day with a knowledgeable local friend. I would love to show you Bucharest and Romania through the places, memories, local perspectives, and everyday details that shaped them.

Jewish Bucharest has a layered and deeply important story, shaped by community life, trade, banking, architecture, culture, resilience and memory. This specialised tour is designed as a deep dive into the Jewish history of the city, from the old merchant streets to the synagogues and museums that preserve its legacy today. We will explore the role of the Jewish community in Bucharest and Romania through the ages, starting with memory and remembrance, then moving into the story of Jewish merchants, bankers, families and personalities who helped shape the city. Along the way, we connect buildings, streets and institutions with the people behind them. We discuss the importance of Jewish merchants in Bucharest, the history of the Jewish Quarter, the architecture of the Coral Temple, and the difficult history preserved inside the Holocaust Museum. This is a thoughtful, story-led tour for travellers who want to understand Jewish Bucharest with context, respect and depth.
We start at the Holocaust Memorial, with an introduction to the Jewish community in Bucharest and Romania through the ages, and the importance of memory and remembrance. From there, we walk towards Marmorosch Palace, where we discuss the family that built it, their Jewish heritage, and the building’s role as one of the city’s great banking landmarks. We continue along Doamnei Street, historically connected with Jewish merchants, and discuss their role in Bucharest’s commercial life. From there, we walk into the Jewish Quarter towards the Coral Temple, talking about the neighbourhood, its architecture, influences, important Jewish personalities and the buildings connected with them. At the Coral Temple, we continue with a deeper history of the Jewish community in Romania. The visit inside is done with the temple’s own guide. The final stop is the Jewish Museum of Bucharest, where the visit is usually guided by the museum curator.

This is a walking tour through central Bucharest and the historic Jewish Quarter. The route is mostly flat and covered on foot, with regular stops for stories, context and visits. Comfortable shoes are recommended. No vehicle is included or required, as the main sites are within walking distance of each other.

We will meet in front of the Holocaust Memorial, near the entrance area. It is a central and recognisable location, close to Calea Victoriei and easy to reach by taxi, Uber/Bolt or public transport. I will send you a message with more details about the exact meeting point the day before the tour. On the morning of the tour, I will also send a short description of what I am wearing, so it is easy for you to recognise me.
