Explore Sibiu your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Sibiu tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Sibiu for every interest, including:

History tours: Wander the Great and Small Squares, cross the Liars’ Bridge, and climb the Council Tower for roofline views. Step into the Brukenthal Palace courtyard and the Lutheran Cathedral to trace Saxon guild life and trade.

Nature and Wildlife tours: Stroll Dumbrava Sibiului Forest and the lakes near the ASTRA open-air museum, or head to Păltiniș for easy alpine trails. In summer, your guide can plan a Transfăgărășan run to Bâlea Lake for brisk air and high-mountain scenery.

Family tours: Try a hands-on day at the ASTRA Museum with working mills and craft workshops, then pop by Sibiu Zoo next door. Add a kid-friendly quest to spot the “eyes” on the rooftops, climb the Council Tower, and finish with fresh covrigi in the Small Square.

The Old Town is very walkable and served by city buses to ASTRA and the zoo; for mountain outings or longer day trips, you can book tours with private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Sibiu inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Sibiu

From Sibiu, it’s easy to branch out to nearby citadels, castles, and high mountain passes, with day trips that keep drives short and work well as flexible private tours.

- Sighișoara: Walk the UNESCO-listed hilltop citadel, climb the clock tower for a wide view, and step into quiet lanes lined with guild houses; this is great if you like medieval history, hands-on craft shops, and photography, and the small size makes it simple to add a slow lunch or museum stop that fits your interests.

- Corvin Castle (Hunedoara): Cross the dramatic bridge to one of Europe’s largest Gothic castles and explore stone halls, courtyards, and armour displays; it suits architecture fans, families who want a clear story of knights and fortresses, and anyone who prefers a straightforward route with time for coffee in the old town after.

- Transfăgărășan Road and Bâlea Lake: When the pass is open in summer, you get hairpin views, waterfalls, and a cool alpine lake where you can stretch your legs or take short hikes; this caters to travellers who want mountain scenery without technical trails, and it’s a classic choice for day trips from Sibiu.

- Alba Iulia Citadel: Walk the star-shaped Vauban walls, see the guard change, and compare the two cathedrals facing the main square; history lovers, military architecture fans, and city walkers can tailor time between museums and open-air ramparts, and tours here pair easily with a regional winery or a local lunch stop.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Sibiu most travellers miss.
