Let my young demeanor not fool you - I am a BA in Art History with a master's degree in Museum Studies and a keen interest in social history, responsible tourism, and lifelong learning (among other things). I bet your Lonely Planet guide doesn't even mention the Drumul Taberei neighborhood where I grew up - a typical 1970s development that will make Romanian communism and the post-socialist era much easier to comprehend. Or maybe you'd prefer to visit a social experiment made in the 50s - the tiny and green neighborhood where I live now. It's not only part of the largest district of Bucharest but also next to the city's loveliest park that few tourists ever come to know. Whatever you wish to discover about Bucharest I'll be more than happy to make that a trip to remember!
We had a fantastic day with Silvana. Her tour of Bucharest was extremely interesting. She was communicative, knowledgeable and flexible. Most of all we enjoyed being with her for the tour and seeing her city through her eyes. I would highly recommend a tour with Silvana when you are in Bucharest.

Highly recommend! Really unique tour if you’re looking for something less touristy. I also did the Downtown Bucharest Walking Tour with Silvana which was great and which I reviewed separately. The Day in Real Life Bucharest explores the neighborhood where Silvana was born and raised. Saw the apartment, school, park, market etc where Silvana grew up in the just ended Communist period in Romania. We also customized the tour a bit to visit the National Museum of Art. I very much enjoyed the entire day in no small part to Silvana who is amazing. It really is a different experience than a classic tour and Silvana brings it alive with her memories of what it was like to grow up during the time immediately after Communism’s fall. If you’ve already done the classic history tour of Bucharest, this is a great addition to give you a more complete Bucharest experience.

We had a great time with Silvana on another tour and just had to try this one out. She did not disappoint. It was a great day. We experienced what the locals do, rode the public transportation like the locals and went where the locals go. We especially enjoyed Silvana telling us about her life today and what it was like growing up in Bucharest. And to top it off we had a great lunch and dessert later.
This was an exceptional tour. Besides showing us Bucharest, Silvana also explained the history of Bucharest and Romania under communism with great insight on how it affected her and her family. She was very flexible and tailored our tour to our interests which included architecture and food. Highly recommend.
While reading through the itinerary please keep in mind 3 things: 1. this tour can and will be further tailored to suit your particular interests and style; 2. you will set the pace of the tour so as to best enjoy it; 3. on my tours there's a very strict 'all you can ask' policy :). On this tour we might: * first visit Bucharest's oldest part - the city center, where most of the famous monuments are; * then explore a so-called 'dormitory neighborhood' of the 1970s and 80s, with its park, swimming pool, local produce market, school, and the likes; * go to the posh side of the city to examine "the discreet charm of the bourgeoisie"; * stop for a snack or proper lunch in a cozy restaurant.
