Hello, My name is Andrei. I was born and raised in Bucharest, and over the years, I turned my passion for history, photography, food, and cultural travel into a career as a licensed guide and professional tour leader. I’ve had the chance to work with travellers from all over the world, both in Romania and across Europe. I create experiences that feel personal, relaxed, and genuinely connected to the places we explore together. Outside of guiding, I enjoy photography, discovering local cafés and restaurants, exploring architecture and history, and meeting people from different cultures. I love finding the small details that make a place memorable: a hidden courtyard, an old local story, a family-run restaurant, or simply the atmosphere of a neighbourhood. For me, travel is not just about seeing famous landmarks. It’s about understanding a place's character and experiencing it more authentically. As a guide, I enjoy sharing both the well-known highlights and the more local sides of Bucharest. It is a city full of contrasts, where elegant historic buildings stand next to communist architecture, lively cafés, local markets, and stories shaped by centuries of history and cultural influences. Romania itself is incredibly diverse, with medieval towns, mountains, traditions, folklore, and regional food culture that often surprise travellers. My goal is to help people experience not only the sights, but also the atmosphere, stories, and local perspective behind them. I think a good tour should help travellers understand the city in a way they cannot on their own or from a guidebook. Every traveller experiences a place differently, and that is one of the things I enjoy most about guiding: adapting the experience to the person in front of me. On my tours, the focus is on how you experience the city while providing context for the layers of the places we visit together. More often than not, people do not remember every name, date, or piece of information they are given, but they remember how they felt and the small details that are easy to miss at first. The most memorable moments often happen in between the main sights: during a conversation, in a hidden courtyard, or in a place you would never normally think to stop. That is why I believe a good tour should feel like spending the day with a knowledgeable local friend. I would love to show you Bucharest and Romania through the places, memories, local perspectives, and everyday details that shaped them.

Bucharest has a remarkable story, shaped by elegance, ambition, monarchy, communism and reinvention. This tour is designed as an introduction to the city, told through the places, people and events that shaped its character. On this tour, we will explore how Bucharest grew from a crossroads of merchants and rulers into the capital of Romania. We will talk about and analyse how it became known as “Little Paris”. From the royal period to the communist years and the 1989 Revolution, every change of regime and mentality has left a permanent mark on Bucharest. Along the way, we will connect major historical moments to architecture, local stories, everyday life, and the city's atmosphere today. We will visit some of Bucharest's most important landmarks, tell legends and stories, deep-dive into history, and discuss the elements of culture and folklore which are only obvious to the locals. This is a relaxed, story-led tour for travellers who want a meaningful first encounter with Bucharest.
We start at the Romanian Athenaeum, one of Bucharest’s most beautiful landmarks. Here, we introduce the history of “Little Paris”, the story of Romania, and why Bucharest developed in this location. From there, we continue to Revolution Square. This is where we discuss the history of the monarchy, the Royal Palace, the communist period, Ceaușescu, and the 1989 Revolution. After that, we stop at Casa Capșa, one of Bucharest’s historic cafés, for a short coffee, cake and toilet break. We then continue into the Old Town, where we see the CEC Palace, the National Bank of Romania, Macca-Vilacrosse Passage, Caru’ cu Bere, Stavropoleos Monastery and Manuc’s Inn. The tour ends near the Palace of Parliament. The building has its own official guides, but I can optionally help arrange or reserve an entrance for guests who want to visit it after our tour, subject to availability.

This is a walking tour. We will explore Bucharest on foot, at a relaxed pace, with regular stops for stories, photos and explanations. The route is mostly flat and takes place in central Bucharest, but comfortable shoes are recommended. We will also have a short stop at Casa Capșa for coffee, cake and a toilet break. No vehicle is included or required for the tour.
Ateneul Român, Strada Benjamin Franklin, Bucharest, Romania
We will meet in front of the Romanian Athenaeum, by the main entrance - the one with the columns. It is one of Bucharest’s most recognisable landmarks and is easy to find by taxi, Uber/Bolt or public transport. I will send you a message with more details about the exact meeting point the day before the tour. On the morning of the tour, I will also send a short description of what I am wearing, so it is easy for you to recognise me. I am looking forward to meeting you and being your guide.
