MONTE ALBAN OLD SACRED CITY

For every visitor of Oaxaca, the visit of the Ancient Sacred City of the Zapotecs: Monte Alban, will be a big joy. This was one of the most important cities in the Mesoamerican civilization and continues to be one of the most impressive to all the visitors. Located at the topo of a complex of hills nearby the modern city of Oaxaca it offers a stunning view of the Valley and is integrated by various monumental structures: The Northern Platform, the Main Plaza and the South Platform. This was the heart of the ceremonial center with many temples, palaces, open ritual spaces and administration buildings. It important to notice also the Gallery of the so called 'Dancers' a group of engraved stones with human figures dated to the very oldest time of the city. The site is also a UNESCO, Cultural Heritage of Humankind. For all the lovers of history and culture, Monte Alban is a must.

From our starting place, we drive to the archaeological site and then we visit the local museum which is a good introduction to what we see then in the site. We start with the Northern Platform, the to the Main Plaza, the 'Danzantes' building, the Observatory, the main Altar and the Ball Game court yard.
