Welcome to Oaxaca! I was born and raised in the Central Valleys, where I still live in one of the many Indigenous communities that make this region so unique. As a proud Zapotec, I enjoy sharing not only my own heritage but also the traditions, history, and living cultures of Oaxaca's sixteen Indigenous peoples. After many years in education as a teacher and academic leader, I realized my favorite classroom had always been Oaxaca itself. Today, as a federally certified Cultural Guide and Nature and Adventure Guide, I combine my passion for archaeology, hiking, birdwatching, and nature with a teaching style that is clear, engaging, and conversational. I love introducing travelers to the remarkable story of the Zapotec civilization, a culture that deserves to be as well known as the Maya and the Aztecs. Questions are always encouraged because the best experiences are conversations, not lectures. Authenticity is at the heart of my tours. Whenever possible, I invite the artisans themselves to share their knowledge and traditions, creating genuine cultural encounters. Whether we're exploring ancient cities, mountain trails, or family workshops, my goal is to help you discover the real Oaxaca beyond the guidebooks. Every tour can be customized to match your interests, pace, and schedule, and I look forward to welcoming you with the warmth, knowledge, and pride of a local.

Overview of your Oaxaca tour

Monte Albán is one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the Americas. Perched high above Oaxaca's Central Valleys, this ancient Zapotec city marked a turning point in the region's history, becoming one of Mesoamerica's earliest great urban and ceremonial centers. Together, we'll explore how the Zapotecs organized society, developed writing, observed the stars, and built a city that influenced the region for centuries. Rather than rushing through a full day of activities, this private half-day experience gives Monte Albán the time and attention it deserves. Through conversation, not lectures, we'll place the Zapotec civilization within the broader story of Mesoamerica, helping you understand both what made it unique and what it shared with other ancient cultures. By the end of our visit, you'll leave with a deeper appreciation of the people behind the stones and why Monte Albán remains one of the defining achievements of ancient Oaxaca.

Your Oaxaca tour itinerary

This tour can begin at **8:00, 8:30, or 9:00 a.m.** I highly recommend the **8:00 a.m. departure**, as arriving at Monte Albán around 8:30 a.m. means cooler temperatures, softer morning light for photography, and significantly fewer visitors, making for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience. **Guided Visit** * Enjoy a relaxed 2-hour guided exploration of Monte Albán's most important areas. * Discover the site's history, architecture, astronomy, and the civilization that flourished here. * Visit any tombs open to the public. * If you wish, climb ceremonial platforms for spectacular panoramic views of the Oaxaca Valley. * Enjoy a little free time for photographs before we begin our return. **Return to Oaxaca City** * We'll depart the archaeological site after the visit and use the drive back to recap the experience and answer any remaining questions. * Estimated return to your accommodation is approximately 3½ to 4 hours after pickup, depending on your selected start time and traffic conditions.
