My name is Tomas A licensed tour guide by the federal government of the country of Mexico with a background of being a native Zapotec from the state of Oaxaca. I started as a tour guide in 2010 in Bahias de Huatulco, located in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico right of the coastline of the Pacific ocean. I have spent the last five years scouting and creating unique experiences in the heart of Huatulco to ensure that your trip will be unforgettable. My experiences promote educational, cultural, rural and sustainable tourism as well as generate economic opportunity for the people of the region in which I work. My outings are not tours in the traditional sense but rather a day with a unique experience on the beach, waterfalls, turtle sanctuary or in the rural community. I offer to my clients an insider's view of Oaxaca, as a native Zapotec from Teotitlan del Valle who is also a certified professional tour guide. I combine my knowledge of history, culture and local communities with a deep respect for my Zapotec heritage and traditions. I bring to my clients closer to the real Oaxaca and I love sharing my personal perspective with them on trips through Bahias de Huatulco and local destinations in the cost line of Oaxaca state and in the central valley. Market days in one of the Zapotec towns of Oaxaca are incredible as different indigenous women arrive with flowers, spices, vegetables, handicrafts and animals to sell, characterized by their clothing and ways of living together. If you choose to book the tour on Sunday, the Zapotec guide will take you to know an excellent experience among the local inhabitants of the Zapotec community, in this guided tour you will know the food of the locals, the coexistence and ways of life of the Zapotecs and the exchanges of products among the Zapotecs on the market day of the community of Tlacolula. If you choose to book the tour on Friday, the Zapotec guide will take you to know an excellent experience among the local people of the Zapotec community on market day in Ocotlan de Morelos.

Tomas, I am so sorry – I thought I had already reviewed this tour! I had a wonderful time seeing the market – one of my favorite things to do when I travel. You showed me things I’ve never seen before and I tasted things I’ve never eaten before. I love chapulines (fried rockets)! Thank you for teaching me about the very old tradition of weaving in the Zapotec community. I learned and saw how cochineal beetles, used for pink dye, are raised on cactus leaves. Lunch was fabulous – although I think my tortilla making skills need improvement. All in all, a really terrific tour seeing Zapotec life through the eyes of a Zapotec guide. Y photos, taken with my phone, are really outstanding. A five star review, five months late! ❤️

Our guide was fabulous. Knowledgeable, great communicator. Went to a local market. It was busy but Tomas always watched out for us and we enjoyed a goat taco. Yum! Also experienced a weaving demonstration from spinning, dye prep, to loom weaving. Fascinating process, plus learning about history, traditions. Did we mention hearing, seeing about making mezcal, the different kinds — and why - where it's produced. Not a factory but a woman dedicated to using a natural process. The tasting — great!

Tomas has a warm, courteous, and friendly personality. He was well informed about Oaxacan culture and food. He drove us to tradional village markets, a alebreje workshop, and a restaurant serving native cuisine. He was also knowledgeable of the Zapotek culture. We highly recommend Tomas to anyone wishing to learn more about Oaxacan food and culture.
