I grew up in Oaxaca and have lived here most of my life. In between I had the opportunity to study economics and languages. Staying for 4 years outside Mexico gave me a new view from my country and a greater understanding and appreciation of the cultural richness of Mexico. I do enjoy sharing this knowledge with visitors and like to encourage conversation, and answer questions any one has about Mexico's history and actual life. I do believe that conveying accurate information to my guests is a very important factor to appreciate my land. I am used to design and perform personal or private tours. My tours are flexible in duration and places visited. They can be adapted to meet your own personal needs or particular interest. This tour really lets you experience the rhythm and feeling of the city. It is not only the monuments that are beautiful but the human ambience that the city conveys. Most of the ancient city is build with the so called "Cantera Verde", a greenish stone of volcanic origin that reflect wonderfully the ambiance light making Oaxaca a very luminous city. Strolling around in the city center you will enjoy the colors, the colonial architecture and the history of this magnificent place. You will experience the liveliness of the pedestrian street, the magnificent baroque church of Santo Domingo the always busy city center and the central market *If you are traveling with a party larger than 5, please let me know and a customized tour will be sent to you with the right price
Juan is a wonderful guide - kind, warm, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable about Oaxacan history and culture. He tailored the tour to our interests and, in particular, brought the Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán and the Museo de las Culturas de Oaxaca to life for us. We loved our tour with Juan and highly recommend him.
We had Juan as our guide for 5 days in Oaxaca and vicinity. He is truly one of the best guides we have ever had, and we have had many. We had outlined in advance all that we wanted to see in our time in Oaxaca, and he coordinated perfectly (and tirelessly -- we asked for a very packed agenda). He even found a special art guide for us for the afternoon after the city tour, as we wanted to see local art and artists. And his English is flawless. Highly recommend.

Excellent tour of central/historic Oaxaca with most time dedicated to a tour of the cultural center museum. Unfortunately many of the beautiful churches were closed due to ongoing wedding ceremonies. Got to see two wedding parades, walk through the old crowded market. Juan is very knowledgable and eager to share his love for Oaxaca.
Juan was very knowledgeable and willing to amend the tour to fit our physical capabilities. The fact that we could enjoy an enlightening conversation at our own very slow pace made this walking tour perfect for us. We highly recommend Juan.
Juan was great. Very informative
The tour starts normally at the Cultural Center of Santo Domingo where we do visit the Church (if open) and then we continue on foot through the "Andador Turístico" (the pedestrian zone of Oaxaca) past the House of Cortes and then the City Center with the Cathedral. Next place it the market where we finish our tour NB. Mondays the Culture Museum is closed. We will try an other one in this case. Better chose an other day for this tour.
