Welcome to Oaxaca! I was born and raised in the Central Valleys, where I still live in one of the many Indigenous communities that make this region so unique. As a proud Zapotec, I enjoy sharing not only my own heritage but also the traditions, history, and living cultures of Oaxaca's sixteen Indigenous peoples. After many years in education as a teacher and academic leader, I realized my favorite classroom had always been Oaxaca itself. Today, as a federally certified Cultural Guide and Nature and Adventure Guide, I combine my passion for archaeology, hiking, birdwatching, and nature with a teaching style that is clear, engaging, and conversational. I love introducing travelers to the remarkable story of the Zapotec civilization, a culture that deserves to be as well known as the Maya and the Aztecs. Questions are always encouraged because the best experiences are conversations, not lectures. Authenticity is at the heart of my tours. Whenever possible, I invite the artisans themselves to share their knowledge and traditions, creating genuine cultural encounters. Whether we're exploring ancient cities, mountain trails, or family workshops, my goal is to help you discover the real Oaxaca beyond the guidebooks. Every tour can be customized to match your interests, pace, and schedule, and I look forward to welcoming you with the warmth, knowledge, and pride of a local.

Overview of your Oaxaca tour

The story of the Zapotecs didn't end with Monte Albán, it continues today in the villages of Oaxaca's Central Valleys, where generations of artisans have preserved their traditions while adapting to changing times. This experience takes you beyond galleries and souvenir shops to meet the people who keep these crafts alive and share the stories behind them. We'll visit San Marcos Tlapazola to discover the ancient art of red clay pottery, Teotitlán del Valle to explore natural dyes, handwoven textiles, and the famous cochineal and indigo pigments, and a family workshop where beeswax candles are still crafted by hand. Along the way, you'll have opportunities to shape clay, try your hand at weaving, and create a traditional beeswax flower before enjoying an authentic Oaxacan lunch at the Tlacolula Market or a local family-run eatery.

Your Oaxaca tour itinerary
