"Shalom Riga" - Half Day Jewish Tour

This tour is an acquaintance with the history and destinies of the Riga Jews on excursion of the monuments of Jewish culture. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Riga was developing rapidly, and several buildings were constructed according to the design of the Jewish architect Mikhail Eisenstein. Nowadays, guests of the city and residents of Riga as well come to see these houses. Many prominent people of the Jewish nationality were born and lived in Riga — filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein, philosopher, and politician Yeshayahu Leibovich, philosopher Isaiah Berlin, world chess champion Mikhail Tal, photographer Philippe Halsman and many others. But there are also gloomy historical witnesses who are visited by guests from all over the world. The way leads through the former territory of Riga Jewish ghetto and makes a stop at former Old Jewish cemetery and Rumbula Memorial.
