Overview of your Riga tour

Let me introduce you with traditional tastes of Latvian cuisine. Unusual combination of ingredients (like herring and cottage cheese) or products you have never tried before (like smoked lampreys or bread with hemp seeds) might surprise you. The best place to cover all food options is Grand Central Market, opened in 1930 as the most modern market of that time and still the major place for buying food. After that we visit Medieval part of Riga passing by the most picturesque spots and places. Being significantly larger than other cities of Latvia, Riga is the country's primate city. It is also the largest city in the three Baltic states and is home to one tenth of the three Baltic states' combined population. The city lies on the Gulf of Riga at the mouth of the Daugava river where it meets the Baltic Sea.

I can’t rave enough about Iveta! We have done around 20 tours by locals and she’s in the top 2 guides we have ever had. She was knowledgeable, passionate and made the tour extremely personal. Knowing my son was a war history major, she took us to a small shop that sold old maps. It was one of his favorite stops on our trip. She took me to jewelry stores of local artists and we tasted local Latvian raspberries that have put all others to shame. Ivetka made us fall in love with Riga and it was our favorite stop in the Baltics! I can’t recommend her enough.

Fantastic tour! Iveta customized our tour for our interests. It was a mash up of Old Town, Art Nouveau and Latvian food culture I have a strong interest in history and geopolitics and she did a great job in these areas. She is a wealth of knowledge and insight. Your Riga tour itinerary

We start the tour at Akademijas square 1 - here from the 17th floor viewing platform of landmark building built during the soviet time ruled by Stalin and therefore often referred to as Stalin's Cake, you will have the best view over the whole Riga and Grand Central Market in particular - I will introduce you to the history of Grand Central Market and it's unique architecture. After that we walk to the Grand Central Market to visit it's different food sections and taste traditional Latvian food and non alchoholic beverages. Selection of tasting depends on the season and your preferences. Please contact me before the tour so that I can arrange it according to your tastes. The choise is wide: fish, meat, dairy products, fruit and berries (seasonal), bread and bakery, fermented vegetables. We complete the tour by visiting Medieval Riga, its 13th century churches, warehouses, cobbled streets and old city walls and gates.
