Half Day in Kemeri National Park - Day Trip from Riga

Kemeri National Park is special for its great biological diversity and biotops. The park stands out with its diverse world of wetlands. It is home to moss or raised bogs, fens, and transitional bogs. That is only about 50-60 km away from Riga. On our way will be Kanieris Lake trail rich in bird and plant diversity and Sulfur Nature trail. There are pounds where all the water to be copper in color and with specific smell. The historical Kemeri Health resort was well known in the past in Europe, in our tour park walk also included. Kemeri is a part of Jurmala Sea resort in nowadays, we will make a stop in the city center with a short beach walk. Recommended for Nature lowers.

The first stop and walk is Lake Kanieris with wooden path and Bird watching tower. From the tower it is possible to take a short walk along the wooden boardwalk, which sometimes floats on pontoons, allowing to observe the beauty of the lake landscape with dry legs. The next stop at "Sulfur nature trail" located in a marshy area. The trail makes a loop around Ragana Lake, which has a red bed. Sulfur ponds are a rare natural phenomenon in Latvia. The sulfur-rich water is the reason for the peculiar flora and the color of the pond water. Next stop is Historical Kemeri Health resort park with sulfur mineral water spring. Kemeri is an area of the Jurmala seaside town where a resort was set up already in the 18th century due to the therapeutic qualities of sulfur water in the many springs in the neighborhood. Only architectural monuments are left to speak of the former glory of the Kemeri resort. City center of Jurmala is a last stop for today tour.
