On the way through the Pavilions, I will spice up the narrative with small funny stories, and you get an insight into what a "democratic meeting place" the Central Market is. People from all walks of life, rich and poor, meet here. The market is in every sense a really colorful place!

My husband and I love food tours led by guides who love food and their country, and Janis is that kind of guide. Janis has a fantastic personality; he's affable, personable, communicates very well, and has a tremendous knowledge about food, the market, Riga, and Latvia in general. The Riga Central Market has a lot of history wrapped up in its stalls, and we were able to try new Latvian gastronomic fare along with old favorites from Latvia under occupation. My husband and I took Janis's Riga Central Market Tour. The Central Market is huge, and Janis treated us to tastes of many of his favorite Latvian foods--fresh seasonal fruit, smoked meats, canned sardines, salmon, dill pickles, four flavors of marinated fresh cabbage, fresh rye bread, craft beer, and more. We loved every minute of it. Janis speaks excellent English and enjoys sharing typical Latvian fare. If markets are your thing, you can't go wrong with this tour.
