Welcome to Riga! I grew up in Australia in a Latvian family, and when I came to Riga 25 years ago I fell in love with the place and never left! It's a place of stunning beauty (whatever the season - there are parks galore), fascinating history (did you know the guy who invented blue jeans came from Riga?), intriguing food (try the garlic rye bread or the hemp butter), sensational beer (I'll point you towards the best brewpubs) - and it is a joy for me to share it with visitors from around the world. In my 25 years here, I've worked as a journalist, a translator and for the last six years a tour guide. So telling stories is my thing, and there are lots of amazing ones in Latvia! Let me introduce you to the romantic, medieval cobblestone streets of the Old Town, the magnificent Art Nouveau buildings on the boulevards, delightful old wooden houses, freaky Soviet structures and much, much more! Please check out my tours, and if you like I can customize one to suit you perfectly. And please let me know if I can help in any other way. Looking forward to seeing you, Philip. The tour starts in Riga's medieval Old Town. We'll see beautiful churches and offbeat places like the Cat House, and hear intriguing stories - did you know that the Christmas tree originated in Riga? Then we head to the Art Nouveau district to experience the world's richest collection of this amazing style, and a tour of the Art Nouveau Museum. Finally, we explore Riga's famous central market and have a Latvian lunch in the food court.
This intriguing tour shows you Riga at its most beautiful and fascinating! The tour is suitable for both cruise ship guests and people staying in hotels. I will pick you up from the passenger terminal or your hotel, then we will head to the Old Town to discover amazing history and grand buildings like Doma Cathedral, St. Peter's Church and the House of Blackheads. Then we take in the Art Nouveau district and the fascinating Art Nouveau Museum. Then we ride up to the 26th floor of the Hotel Latvija for magnificent views of Riga, before enjoying lunch at the Central Market. At the end, I will drive you back to the ship or hotel.
