Hi, my name is Francesco. I would like to welcome you to my warm and welcoming Emilia Romagna. I was born and raised in Ravenna but I have lived in Bologna for many years. I am a tour guide and a tour leader with a regular license and since I am a professional wine taster I have chosen to tell my territory giving great importance to the food and wine aspect. First of all I would say that I feel like a traveler. I have had travel experience on almost every continent. I also give great importance to storytelling. To what and how say something, for this reason I have devoted a lot of time to writing (another interest I have) and, lucky me. . . This is definitely the food tour you cannot miss! Have you already discovered the nicknames of Bologna? The "Red", The "Learned" and, finally the "Fat". Good. Let's dive into the true meaning of the third one: "Bologna the Fat", for its rich and caloric gastronomy handed down over the centuries. Before becoming a licensed tour guide I was the owner of a wine shop in town and I worked for several years in the food sector. Bologna is simply the capital of Italian and probably European food. Food, wine and culture are mixed together in a unique tradition, rich in experience and know-how. You can find it in some of the products that the whole world envies us. From this area comes the Parmigiano Reggiano, the mortadella, the Prosciutto and the Balsamic vinegar. Through several tastings, about ten, including cheese, some kind of breads, salami and other cured meat, chocolate and the artisanal gelato, we will discover the highest quality of our food tradition.
We thoroughly enjoyed our "fat city" tour with Francesco. He provided many historic facts as we viewed the landmarks of Bologna, and great insight into the food culture of the city. The fruits, lasagna, meats, cheeses, balsamic vinegar, chocolates and gelato were all delicious and their creation and history explained in detail. Francesco was very knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. We enjoyed his company as well as the wondrous food of Bologna. Mille grazie, Francesco!
We loved tasting Bologna with Francesco! It felt like visiting a friend in his home town - we had amazing food in places we never would have found without him. He really knows his city and his food and wine. We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the tour and haven't stopped talking about the cured meats and lasagna he introduced us to. I only wish we had enough time to do a wine tour with him - he clearly knows where to find the hidden gems and I'm sure that would be a wonderful adventure with him guiding us.

Cannot recommend Francesco enough. He was incredibly knowledgeable about Bologna and took me to all the best places to eat. Was very accommodating if I wanted to add stops that were not included in the tour. He is also very personable, so it made the tour even more fun.

In this walking tour we will try and discover something really peculiar of our food tradition: - The day begins with a croissant and a cup of coffee or, if in the afternoon, we can try a Tigella, stuffed with local mortadella, our typical cured meat. -Going towards Mercato Delle Erbe, one of the best food markets in town, we'll try different aging of Parmigiano-Reggiano, the king of cheeses. -Still talking about "flour" we will discover how the real Sfogline transform it into pasta, only by hands, -We will taste the real Ragù: the Bolognese sauce, hot and just cooked in another market area, the so-called "Quadrilatero" -A glass of wine in what is considered the oldest tavern in Europe, trying some more bread, cold cuts and cheeses. -We will complete with a tasting of chocolate or a craft made ice cream. Are you still hungry? I don't think so, anyway I can suggest some good Trattoria nearby!
