Hi, my name is Francesco. I would like to welcome you to my warm and welcoming Emilia Romagna. I was born and raised in Ravenna but I have lived in Bologna for many years. I am a tour guide and a tour leader with a regular license and since I am a professional wine taster I have chosen to tell my territory giving great importance to the food and wine aspect. First of all I would say that I feel like a traveler. I have had travel experience on almost every continent. As a traveler, I like to blend in with the local people and learn from them the secrets of the place visited. In every place I visit then, I love to taste the local delicacies. I also give great importance to storytelling. To what and how say something, for this reason I have devoted a lot of time to writing (another interest I have) and, lucky me. . . I have published three travel books, nationwide distributed (Recently tranlsated in English and available on Amazon) So, my idea of traveling and touring is to get to know people with a local perspective, to get to know the historical and gastronomic culture and to know how to tell it. If you want to get to know Bologna in an half-day tour, this is certainly the one for you. I am a certified tour guide based in Bologna since many years, with experience in wine and gastronomy (I owned a vineria). I designed this tour for someone who wants to combine the cultural and historical aspect with the knowledge of the most delicious aspect of the city, through a tasting at the end of it. We will walk through the millenary history of the historic center, discovering the peculiarities of this unique city which houses the oldest university in the western world (dated 1088 AD!). Over 40 kilometers of arcades, and then. . . a gastronomy that the whole world envies us! At the end of the tour I can give you various suggestions about how to organize your afternoon, what not to be missed and some good restaurants to recommend. Please note that I can make tour extensions or special customizations depending on your needs.

Francesco is a fountain of knowledge, history, myth and legend. His tour is a perfect overview of Bologna and we learned a lot about it's dynamic history. He has a great sense of humor and the wine he chose for our tasting became one of our new favorites.

-Start in in Piazza del Nettuno (or other agreed location) -Palace of King Enzo and Sala Borsa with a beautiful Art Nouveau ceiling -The fountain of Neptune: a pagan god to celebrate a Christian Pope. -Piazza Maggiore and the main buildings all around: Palazzo del Podestà, Palazzo d'Accursio, the actual city hall then the Basilica of San Petronio (with entrance). -Archiginnasio palace, home of the millenary university of Bologna -The two towers, Asinelli and Garisenda. - Saint Stephen Complex also called the "Seven Churches". -The Quadrilatero or Medieval Market: here we will talk about Mortadella, Prosciutto di Parma, Parmigiano Reggiano and other deli that make the city and our region so famous in terms of food! Then we will do "The Experience", that is, the tasting of a board of the best cold cuts and local cheeses paired with a glass of wine.
