Ravenna served as a capital three times in ancient history: as the last capital of the Western Roman Empire, the capital of the Ostrogothic Kingdom in Italy and the capital of the Byzantine territories in Italy. Its basilicas, baptisteries and mausoleums stand as extraordinary testimonies to Ravenna's illustrious past. The wall mosaics that adorn these ancient buildings recount the stories and legends of kings and emperors, highlighting how Christian faith was the cornerstone of Late Antique society. Green, gold, and blue are Ravenna's signature colours: they shimmer on the domes and walls like glass jewels. On this tour, we will visit 4 UNESCO protected monuments, all adorned with mosaics dating from the 5th to the 6th century AD.
