Ciao! Welcome to my Bologna. I'm Margherita, a licensed tour guide born and raised here, and I love sharing the stories, flavours and hidden details that make this city feel alive. I have always loved travelling and discovering different cultures. Thanks to my parents, who brought my sister and me around Europe from a young age, I learned that every place has its own stories, traditions and unique atmosphere. After graduating in Foreign Languages and Cultures at the University of Bologna in 2009, I decided to follow my passion and become a licensed tour guide in 2016. What I love most about my job is seeing Bologna through my guests' eyes and sharing the little details that make this city special: the warm colours of its medieval streets, the endless porticoes, the stories hidden behind its buildings, the smell of fresh pasta coming from traditional shops, and the lively atmosphere of its markets. Every time I walk through Bologna with travellers, I discover my city from a new perspective. I still find myself falling in love with Bologna a little more every day, and sharing that feeling with people from all over the world is one of the greatest joys of being a guide. For me, a great tour is not only about visiting important landmarks. It's about understanding the soul of a place, sharing stories and helping travellers feel more connected to the city they are discovering. I love introducing visitors to Bologna's history, art and traditions, but also to the everyday side of local life: where to enjoy a good espresso, where to taste traditional food, where to wander at sunset and the places I would recommend to my own friends. I am also passionate about the region where I live : Emilia-Romagna. It's a region full of art, history, music, craftsmanship and incredible food traditions. From UNESCO heritage sites to world-famous specialties such as Traditional Balsamic Vinegar, Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma and fresh handmade pasta, this land has so many stories to share. Whether it is your first time in Bologna or you want to discover a more authentic side of the city, I would love to welcome you and share my Bologna with you. As a local qualified guide, following Italian regulations, I have access to all landmarks included in my tours. License as Tour Guide since 2016 License as Tour Leader since 2019

Overview of your Bologna tour

In Bologna, food is never just food : it's a way to spend Sundays with our families, learning recipes passed down with care in our grandmothers' kitchens. This relaxed private experience is designed to help you discover Bologna through its flavours, traditions and the family-run businesses that keep them alive. We'll begin the morning like many locals do, with an espresso and a traditional savoury breakfast, then stroll through historic streets, tasting iconic Amarena Fabbri, experiencing Traditional Balsamic Vinegar at the historic Giusti boutique, and ending with a tagliere of local delis, cheeses, warm tigelle and regional wine. No rush. Just good food, good conversation and all the recommendations you need to enjoy the rest of your stay in Bologna. Please note: this tour is vegetarian-friendly, but because it celebrates Bologna's traditional cuisine, it isn't suitable for vegans or guests following a strict gluten-free diet.

We really had a fun time with Margherita. I'd been to Bologna before but it was a completely different experience seeing it with her. We learned a lot, and had some great food of course! She knows her stuff and is such a nice person as well. I would definitely book her again. Grazie mille!

Your Bologna tour itinerary

-We'll meet at your hotel (if it's in the historic centre) or at our agreed meeting point - start the morning in a cafè the way many Bolognese people do: with an espresso and a traditional brioche salata. It's the perfect introduction to the city's everyday food culture - Amarena Fabbri : our next stop is dedicated to one of Bologna's sweetest icons. You'll taste this beloved local specialty and learn why its famous blue-and-white ceramic jar has become part of Italian family traditions - Giusti – The Art of Traditional Balsamic : We'll visit the Giusti boutique, where you'll enjoy a guided tasting of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar while discovering the craftsmanship, patience and passion behind one of Italy's most extraordinary products - A Walk Through the Quadrilatero : a stroll through Bologna's medieval market district - The local bottega tasting : we'll end the experience around a table, sharing a tagliere of local cured meats and cheeses, warm tigelle and a glass of carefully selected regional wine.
