There is a not-so-famous side of Bologna, far from the delicacies of food: it's the spiritual side of the city. In this itinerary we will investigate about the relationship beetween the city and the Roman Church with a specific focus on what remains of the Jewish heritage. Bologna was one of the first cities to adopt the papal bull of 1556 which ordered the confinement of Jews in special areas, later called ghettos. But less than a century earlier, many Jewish printers were opened and the University established a chair of Jewish culture and history. The Bologna University Library has also kept the scroll of the world's oldest Jewish Pentateuch for over two centuries. Let yourself be guided through the alleys of the Jewish ghetto by a licensed tour guide with in-depth knowledge of the city!
We just took the two hour walking tour of central Bologna with Francesco, including the sites of Jewish interest. The tour is excellent and Francesco is a wonderful guide. He provided wonderful commentary and the entire tour was so interesting from beginning to end. This is a great way to get an introduction to Bologna.
