My name is Helga, and I was born and raised in Iceland. I'm a friendly, nature loving person and I live in Akureyri, the biggest town on the north coast. I have three grown up children and one grandchild. When the kids were young, we travelled a lot together in Iceland, camping, hiking, and fishing, and we still do, even though they are grown up with their own families. It is such a privilege being so close to untouched nature. I have been doing various things in life before I started guiding, such as; working on a farm in the countryside, as a Chef in a summer hotel, worked as a healthcare assistant at a hospital. I have a BA degree in business and operated my own contracting company. I believe the best way to make the most of your visit in Iceland is doing it with a knowledgeable local guide. I´m passionate about traveling with my guests and showing them my beautiful country, sharing my knowledge and giving them opportunity to experience the nature, landscape, history and culture. Feel free to contact me with your ideas and thoughts and we can make interesting tour for you and your group. I look forward to welcoming you as a guest on my tours and make your trip unforgettable and safe. Our journey takes us along Eyjafjörður, one of Iceland’s longest fjords, to our first destination, the Godafoss waterfall, which holds great significance in Iceland’s history. Then we drive through the Lake Mývatn area on our way to the raw surrounding at the edge of the wilderness and visit Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Next, we drive back and explore the beauty of Lake Mývatn, where we can appreciate stunning sights such as Dimmuborgir, an area of extraordinary lava formations. We visit Skútustaðagígar - Pseudo craters. This unique phenomenon can only be found in a few places around the world, including Iceland, Hawaii, one in the Azores, and even on the planet Mars. We also can see the rich birdlife of the lake, in the summertime. Then it´s time to head back to Akureyri, and take one last photostop with a fantastic wiew over the fjord and the town.
From Akureyri we drive about 40 min to Goðafoss waterfall – The waterfall of Gods where we take 40 min stop. From there we drive for about an hour and a half, to the mighty Dettifoss – The most powerful waterfall in Europe. We stay there for a bit more than an hour. It's about 20 min walk from the parking lot, to the waterfall. Better bring warm and/or waterproof gear. Then it's time to head back to Dimmuborgir - dramatic lava formations, where we enjoy for the next 40 min. From Dimmuborgir is 15 min drive to Skútustaðagígar - Pseudo craters. Five min walk to the viewing point where you can enjoy the view for about 30 min, before it's time to head back to Akureyri.
