Hi, my name is Thordur Hjalmarsson but I go by the nickname Thor. I am a tour guide, anthropologist and a wood worker living in Akureyri in north Iceland. I've been guiding all over Iceland, mostly in the north though, for the last 7 years and I have no plans to quit any time soon. I am passionate about my work and being out in the nature enjoying life in the good company of my dog, my friends and travellers that have decided to visit this beautiful island. I grew up in Akureyri but I've lived in quite a few places around Iceland and abroad and Lake Mývatn is my second home. I am knowledgeable about my surroundings, history, geology, geography and culture and I can talk just as much about sheep and old farmers as I talk about lavafields and glaciers. I've always enjoyed working with people, and being able to combine meeting new people and travel around my country is a blessing. Whether I'm cruising along the coastline or into the highlands, I'm happy to be out in the nature and on the road. ps. in one of my pictures you can see my dog, Yrja the princess and if you are a dog lover and you appreciate her company she will be happy to join us. She happens to be a big fan of the Icelandic nature, just as much as I am. - Licensed Professional driver. - Certified Wilderness First Responder - Fully licensed vehicles by the Icelandic Transport Authority. - Licensed Tour Provider by the Icelandic Tourist Board - University of Iceland, Anthropologist

A long day tour of the Diamond Circle delivers a spectacular feast of Icelandic landscapes—from roaring waterfalls and steaming geothermal fields to dramatic canyons and marine wildlife. With smart planning, the day can be intense yet deeply rewarding. A roughly 250 km loop showcasing some of Iceland’s most spectacular natural wonders.
Join us on an unforgettable full-day adventure through the spectacular Diamond Circle — a journey through waterfalls, volcanic landscapes, canyons, and coastal beauty. We begin at Goðafoss, the majestic "Waterfall of the Gods", before heading to the volcanic marvels of Lake Mývatn. Explore the steaming mud pools of Hverir, the dramatic lava formations of Dimmuborgir, and the hidden geothermal cave of Grjótagjá. Next, experience the raw power of Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall, and the graceful beauty of nearby Selfoss. Our journey continues to Hljóðaklettar, known for its surreal basalt columns and echoing rock formations — a short scenic walk will reveal these unique geological wonders. We then visit the tranquil Ásbyrgi Canyon, a stunning horseshoe-shaped valley rich in legend and nature. Finally, we arrive in the charming town of Húsavík, Iceland's whale watching capital. Here you can relax in the world-famous GeoSea geothermal baths, overlooking the Arctic Ocean.
