Northern lights hunting in the north, we escape the light pollution of the city and go outside of Akureyri to see the amazing northern lights. The Northern Lights viewing for this winter looking to be very active and there are few better places to see them than in the North around Akureyri.
Reynir was right when the aurora apps were wrong. They all said cloudy, 14 percent chance... he picked us up right on time in a comfortable, warm Landcruiser (artic truck modified), and said he was optimistic. He took us north and immediately we saw a faint glow. Persistence and patience paid off as we had an amazing viewing! He said it was in the top 5 all winter. The hot chocolate and donuts were most appreciated. No one does this better!
Reynir and his team including Hjalti and Jovi were amazing! Reynir was flexible and patient even though we did not know when our cruise ship would dock! Hjalti was great trying to find Northern Lights for us even though it was very beginning of season. Very personable and informative and kept us entertained while searching and waiting. Jovi was excellent and knowledgeable taking us to Godafoss and Myvatn and Dimmuborgir! Great trip and will book whenever in their area!
We had the most excellent night tour. We started at the appointed time and drove west. It was looking unlikely but our guide persevered and right around midnight we got a show!! The low and high clouds cleared and the northern lights were viewed!! He was very persistent with stopping and looking , checking with other guides elsewhere, and keeping us informed the entire time. Van was easy in and out and he drove excellently. Would do this tour again!!
Reynir is an excellent guide and driver. I always felt safe and secure. While we didn't see the lights, he was extremely patient and did everything in his power to find them. Reynir went above and beyond to ensure our time in northern Iceland was a safe and unique experience, even providing little touches like crampons and hot chocolate!
Our tour with Reynir was absolutely great!!! He just took us to the perfect spot to see the Northern lights. It's for sure that he really knows where the best places to see them are. He additionally took us awesome pictures that he shared with us. I would definitely recommend Reynir. We had a magical night which was the cherry on the top for our trip in Iceland.

We head in the direction with the most chances of seeing Northern Lights, escaping the light pollution of the city. This might be a long night so we bring with us Kleina (Icelandic twisted doughnut) for you to bite on as well hot chocolate to warm you up during the wait for the lights. • The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon. Sightings cannot be guaranteed even if the tour is operated • We decide around 18:00 pm every day if the conditions are favorable to operate the tour. You can customize the tour upon request.
