My name is Helga, and I was born and raised in Iceland. I'm a friendly, nature loving person and I live in Akureyri, the biggest town on the north coast. I have three grown up children and one grandchild. When the kids were young, we travelled a lot together in Iceland, camping, hiking, and fishing, and we still do, even though they are grown up with their own families. It is such a privilege being so close to untouched nature. I have been doing various things in life before I started guiding, such as; working on a farm in the countryside, as a Chef in a summer hotel, worked as a healthcare assistant at a hospital. I have a BA degree in business and operated my own contracting company. I believe the best way to make the most of your visit in Iceland is doing it with a knowledgeable local guide. I´m passionate about traveling with my guests and showing them my beautiful country, sharing my knowledge and giving them opportunity to experience the nature, landscape, history and culture. Feel free to contact me with your ideas and thoughts and we can make interesting tour for you and your group. I look forward to welcoming you as a guest on my tours and make your trip unforgettable and safe. This Lake Myvatn tour show us sample of everything that makes Iceland unique. From its bubbling mud pools to captivating lava formations, this area offers some of the most geologically fascinating features in the country. We start driving along Eyjafjröður, to our first destination, Godafoss waterfall which holds great significance in Iceland’s history. We drive to lake Mývatn area where we can appreciate stunning sights such as Skútustaðagígar, also known as pseudo craters. This unique phenomenon can only be found in a few places around the world, including Iceland, Hawaii, one in the Azores, and even on the planet Mars. We will visit Dimmuborgir, an area of extraordinary lava formations. Then we visit Námaskarð geothermal area, where many smoking fumaroles and boiling mud pots can be seen. With time and interest, we will end at the Myvatn Nature Baths, where you can enjoy and relax in the geothermal water for at least an hour, before we drive back to Akureyri.
Goðafoss - The Waterfall of the Gods, 40 min drive from Akureyri and about 45 min stop. Sktútustaðir - The Pseudo Craters. 45 min drive and usually about 20min stop, longer if you are interested in birds. Dimmuborgir – Lava formations, about 15 min drive from Skútustaðir and usually we enjoy it for about 45 min, where we take short and easy hike through the best part of the lava formation. Námaskarð - Another 15 min drive and we stay for about 30 min. The bubbling mud pools and steaming fumaroles. The bright colors and earthy smells here offer a vivid reminder of the natural forces that shape Iceland. Myvatn Nature Baths – Optional. 5 min drive from Námaskarð. Here you have the opportunity to relax in the steam baths and bathe in geothermal water for at least an hour, or/and have some refreshments. Bring swimsuits and towels. From the Nature Baths it take us about an hour drive back to Akureyri. The final stop is a photostop at the other side of the fjord Eyjafjörður with a view of the town Akureyri.
