Hi, my name is Thordur Hjalmarsson but I go by the nickname Thor. I am a tour guide, anthropologist and a wood worker living in Akureyri in north Iceland. I've been guiding all over Iceland, mostly in the north though, for the last 7 years and I have no plans to quit any time soon. I am passionate about my work and being out in the nature enjoying life in the good company of my dog, my friends and travellers that have decided to visit this beautiful island. I grew up in Akureyri but I've lived in quite a few places around Iceland and abroad and Lake Mývatn is my second home. I am knowledgeable about my surroundings, history, geology, geography and culture and I can talk just as much about sheep and old farmers as I talk about lavafields and glaciers. I've always enjoyed working with people, and being able to combine meeting new people and travel around my country is a blessing. Whether I'm cruising along the coastline or into the highlands, I'm happy to be out in the nature and on the road. ps. in one of my pictures you can see my dog, Yrja the princess and if you are a dog lover and you appreciate her company she will be happy to join us. She happens to be a big fan of the Icelandic nature, just as much as I am. - Licensed Professional driver. - Certified Wilderness First Responder - Fully licensed vehicles by the Icelandic Transport Authority. - Licensed Tour Provider by the Icelandic Tourist Board - University of Iceland, Anthropologist

Embark on a captivating short day tour starting in Akureyri's charming old town. First, marvel at the majestic beauty of Goðafoss waterfall, known for its power, beauty and rich history. Then, delve into Iceland's past at the Laufás Heritage Museum, where traditional turf houses and fascinating exhibits offer a glimpse into life in bygone days. This tour provides an enriching blend of natural wonder and cultural heritage, perfect for a memorable Icelandic experience. If you have plenty of time and the weather is good when we get back you can be dropped off in the Botanical Gardens and then walk from there to the ship. It's also possible to simly add a short stop in the Botanical Gardens if you like.
As we leave the Akureyri port we drive through the oldest part of Akureyri with a short introduction of the town. It takes only around 30 minutes to drive to Godafoss Waterfall where we stop for about 45 minutes. From the waterfall we drive for 30 minutes to Laufás Heritage museum where we stop again for around 45 minutes. From Laufás there is a short drive back to Akureyri.
