Hi, my name is Thordur Hjalmarsson but I go by the nickname Thor. I am a tour guide, anthropologist and a wood worker living in Akureyri in north Iceland. I've been guiding all over Iceland, mostly in the north though, for the last 7 years and I have no plans to quit any time soon. I am passionate about my work and being out in the nature enjoying life in the good company of my dog, my friends and travellers that have decided to visit this beautiful island. I grew up in Akureyri but I've lived in quite a few places around Iceland and abroad and Lake Mývatn is my second home. I am knowledgeable about my surroundings, history, geology, geography and culture and I can talk just as much about sheep and old farmers as I talk about lavafields and glaciers. I've always enjoyed working with people, and being able to combine meeting new people and travel around my country is a blessing. Whether I'm cruising along the coastline or into the highlands, I'm happy to be out in the nature and on the road. ps. in one of my pictures you can see my dog, Yrja the princess and if you are a dog lover and you appreciate her company she will be happy to join us. She happens to be a big fan of the Icelandic nature, just as much as I am. - Licensed Professional driver. - Certified Wilderness First Responder - Fully licensed vehicles by the Icelandic Transport Authority. - Licensed Tour Provider by the Icelandic Tourist Board - University of Iceland, Anthropologist

A nice start of the day, walking in the old town of Akureyri and visiting the famous Botanic Gardens for a stroll and a morning coffee or a cup of tea. Visiting the old town, where I grew up, is a good introduction to Akureyri town. After a relaxing visit to the Gardens we drive out of town and start our coastal journey. We visit small charming fishing villages where we have the chance to taste some local food and drinks, relax in geothermal water or even try fishing of a pier. What we do exactly depends on your wishes, needs and how much time you want to spend on this daytour. It can last anywhere between 6-8 hours and even longer. Iceland is famous for it's black sand beaches and there a a few to choose from on this coastline. Siglufjorður town is the furthest north town on the peninsula and a very picturesque place to visit. On our way back we can either stop at Kaldi Micro brewery for some beer tasting or visit Vellir Farm in the most beautiful valley in Iceland Svarfaðardalur.
We start our tour in the oldest part of town and from there we go to the Botanic Gardens for a short walk, smelling the flowers and having some refreshments in a beautiful coffee house, Café Laut. Next we leave Akureyri and start our drive along the coastline of Eyjafjordur Fjord. We stop at couple of fishing villages where you can choose from different activities depending on your interests. -Hauganes Geothermal Baths -Baccalá Bar and Restaurant to taste some local food -Fishing on a pier overlooking the beautiful Fjord From Hauganes we drive to a black sand beach in Ólafsfjörður village or Dalvík village. A nice short walk in the black sand with amazing view out the Fjord. Siglufjörður Town is our next stop and there we can have some refreshments and visit the Herring museum (depending on length of the tour). On our drive back to Akureyri we can stop at Vellir Farm Store or stop at Kaldi Micro Brewery. *To do all above this tour takes around 9 hours but we can design this according to your wishes and needs
