We will meet at the metro station Champs-Elysées Clemenceau and we will take the metro to discover the first gothic church built before the cathedral Notre-Dame of Paris! This church was chosen to be the necropolis of the french kings!

We had a fabulous visit to Saint Denis Basilica with Caroline. She's is an engaging and extremely knowledgeable guide. We felt like we got the whole history of France and its monarchs during our time together, plus the Gothic architecture. A very enjoyable and informative visit! We would highly recommend this tour.
Your Paris tour itinerary
We will begin the tour in the crypt and I will speak about the life of Saint-Denis who was a martyr during the 3rd century. I will show you the different steps of contruction of the basilica from the 5th century to the 13th century. I will explain you what was the gothic architecture and we will see the tombs of the different kings of France from the medieval ages to the tombs of the Renaissance. During the french revolution, the corpses of the kings were exhumated from their coffin in 1793. They are now in the ossuary in the crypt. I will finish with the tombs of the king Louis XVI and his wife Marie-Antoinette who were guillotined in 1793. In front of the heart of their son Louis XVII , I will explain you the "enigma of the child of the temple".
