Essential Paris: A 3-Hour Walking Tour

A Wonderful and Truly Personalized Tour with Mathilde Although we had visited Paris a couple of times before, this was our first personalized walking tour, and we could not have asked for a better guide than Mathilde. At the beginning of the tour, we asked if she could tailor the itinerary around some of the places we especially wanted to see. Paris has far too much to cover in just three hours, but Mathilde immediately understood what we were looking for and adjusted the tour perfectly. One of the highlights was exploring several of the city’s beautiful covered passages, including Passage des Panoramas, Passage Jouffroy, and Galerie Vivienne. These were places we had never visited on our previous trips. As we walked, Mathilde brought them to life with stories about their rich and colorful history. It was genuinely enlightening and gave us a completely different view of Paris. From there, we visited the Palais-Royal and the Colonnes de Buren, walked through the Louvre courtyard and around the pyramid, and continued along the Seine past the Pont des Arts, the Bras de la Monnaie, and the Pont Neuf. We stopped for a quick hydration break at Place Dauphine, but even then the tour did not really stop as Mathilde continued sharing stories about the area and pointed out details we would otherwise have completely missed, including the little “Space Invader” mosaics found on buildings throughout Paris. She also helped us better understand the Métro system when we took the train from the beautiful Cluny–La Sorbonne station, explaining the signatures that decorate its ceiling. We then continued to Notre-Dame and, finally, the Eiffel Tower. Mathilde was knowledgeable, engaging, patient and extremely accommodating throughout the entire tour. We had asked her to take a whole lot of photos and she happily obliged. She also turned out to be an excellent photographer, as our pictures came out beautifully! We would highly recommend Mathilde not only to first-time visitors, but also to people who have been to Paris several times. We thought we already knew the city reasonably well, yet she showed us just how much more there is to discover. We are very grateful that we had her as our guide. Her wonderful restaurant recommendations were an added bonus. Thank you, Mathilde, for making our return to Paris so memorable!

Great area of Paris for a walking tour. Interesting history, buildings, and even some shopping at locally owned stores. My wife and I enjoyed this tour with Mathilde very much. Highly recommended.
